Robots.txt question

Post by bootzy1 » Tue Dec 12, 2017 5:19 pm

Hi,

My joomla site lives in a subdirectory of root.

HTACCESS directs users to the proper directory.

In my case - something like this:

/root/mysite/

I just read that WHEN your site lives in a subdirectory - your robots.txt needs to be moved to ROOT.

THEN your "disallow" commands need to reflect the path to the folders:
So this - Disallow: /administrator/
Becomes this - Disallow: /mysite/administrator/

I deleted the Robots.txt inside the directory /mysite/

Question: Does this all seem proper?
Question: How do I test to see if it's working correctly?
Question: Do I need to do ANYTHING in my site configuration?

This is all sort of confusing.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It looks good to me. :)
If you use Google search console, there is a robots.txt checking utility.
