Old Pages auto remove in Articles

Postby djslue » Wed Feb 07, 2018 7:56 pm

I post an article almost every day and use the page break to separate them. Is there a way to have a limit of say 30 "Pages" so once it reaches 31 it removes the oldest page

"Removed" ... like how (and from where)? How would you like these pages removed? I'm sorry but I don't understand the question.

Have them be deleted

Create a new article each time instead of adding to the same article with page breaks. Use a category blog menu item type to show them. You can archive old articles.

I guess you could always write a plugin (something that runs every day) and it the plugin finds an article with a creation date more than 30 days old, the plugin can delete the entry from the _content table.

Or write a cron job to achieve a similar thing.

I'd be very careful what you wish for. If you go away from your site for, say, a month and don't prevent the automatic article self-destruct mechanism, you'll find that you have no articles remaining.

Instead of deleting the articles, I would put a start/end publish date/time on them. At the end of that time, the articles won't be deleted but they won't appear on your website either. It's up to you.

The publish date idea sounds better. I'll figure out how to do that.

Thanks

If you archive the articles with the archive function, they can then be viewed with the Archived Articles Menu Item Type.
