Remove query strings from static resources

Postby LukeDouglas » Fri Feb 09, 2018 3:46 pm

In analyzing the performance of a website, I get this warning "Remove query strings from static resources".

There are 21 files in all with the "?"+code including commonly used files. In all there were 49 requests

Here are 3 exampleS:

Code: Select all

In checking just the "/g5_helium/" files being called on the home page, in the BODY there were some that did not have the extra parameters and some did have the extra parameters added but all references in the HEAD did have the extra parameter added.

Code: Select all

<link href="/templates/g5_helium/custom/css-compiled/helium_15.css?5a7a25b1" rel="stylesheet" />
<link href="/templates/g5_helium/custom/css-compiled/helium-joomla_15.css?5a7a25b1" rel="stylesheet" />
<link href="/templates/g5_helium/custom/css-compiled/custom_15.css?5a7a25b5" rel="stylesheet" />
<script src="/templates/g5_helium/js/juitabs.js"></script>

I'm wondering why these parameters are being added to these files and is there a way to remove them without impacting the performance or functionality of the website?

As these files belong to your template, ask your template developer.

I guess they are serial numbers added to inform the cache system that the file is changed in order to drop the old cached version and show the new version.
