Portal on Joomla with CMS sizing

Post by DinB » Sat Mar 03, 2018 8:16 am

I am suggesting implementation of an EDUCATION portal of considerable size on Joomla with the CMS as the source of information on the portal. I will also be using an ESB to connect to various other backend applications to bring data to forefront on the portal.

How can I determine -
1) The Size of MySQL Database I need for the portal and CMS only?
2) The number of databases required for 24/7 availability?
3) How many Databases per instance - Dev, Test and Production?

It would be of tremendous help if any of you can give be the answer or point me in correct direction. The portal is for Students, Teachers, admins, parents etc. to login and see. An eg. of existing portal -

Many Thanks,

Hi Dinb,
1 the size of the database, only you can possibly know this.
2 Number of databases for 24/7, is 1 if your hoster is reliable.Using more than 1 instance of a database requires a lot of work and expense, synchronising etc.Possibly consider a CDN.
3 How many Databases,1 for each site,ie dev,production
