Displayed email address

Post by mikefraser » Fri Sep 21, 2018 1:51 am

Hi
Recently did a new 3.8.12 installation and and using my email for Administrator. I have added a contact for the person I did the website for with her email address in the Contact Form. Everything works fine, she receives emails from the website when people submit. However the displayed email address for the recipient is my Admin email address and not her email address as in the contact details. Obviously getting my email address from Global config/server/email settings. Is there a setting I've missed, or another way for her email to be shown as the sender of the email.
Thanks

Don't you mean "however the displayed email address for the sender is my admin email address ??? You already said, the recipient, your client for which the website is built, was your client's email address.

You have already identified as above why it's your email - the simple solution is to change it to your client's email address.

So you want it to be the same sender and recipient? TO [email protected] FROM [email protected] rather than TO [email protected] FROM [email protected] ???

If you still need to receive (for example) anything related to administration or management of the site (if that's your ongoing role) then you can set up the system to send that kind of thing to your own Administrator/Super User account.

Maybe there's some configuration setting in the contact component you have missed concerned with the "Sender" email address, suggest going back through it and double-check.

I hope I've understood what you were trying to ask.

The visitor who completes the form sends it to the site (by clicking a button)
The site sends the email to the contact and (if requested) a copy to the email address the visitor.
Thus the 'From field' is the site email address. Global configuration is where the site email address is set ... suggest you create an email address @yourdomain .com.

Hi all
Thanks for info, seems it can't do what I want.
I will be maintaining it so need my email as Admin.
Just thought there would be a way since multiple contacts can be put in but they will all show coming from the Admin email address.
Thanks for help again
Cheers

No you wont you can use a @thesite .com email address and use Thunderbird to connect with imap. You will then get the site emails to your computer. That way you will prevent visitors (who send the contact form) from seeing your personal email address when the site sends them a copy.

https://www.thunderbird.net/en-GB/ allows you to read the emails (from all your email addresses) all in one place.
