How to duplicate pages and add them to a menu automagically

Post by ugcheleuce » Thu Dec 06, 2018 7:12 pm

Hello everyone

I inherited a Joomla web site, so everything is new to me. I want to create a set of pages and have a menu that links to each of those pages. These pages will be for information about songs, so every page will be roughly the same (same layout, etc) except for the actual content. So I have some questions:

1. If I were to create an unpublished page with the appropriate layout etc, is there a simple way to create a copy of that page (with a new name) for each new song as and when I want to add a new song's page?
2. Is there a way to create a menu that automatically gets a link for a page added to it when a new page is created?
3. I want the menu for the pages to appear only next to those pages (and next to an introductory page), but not next to any other pages. How would I do that (or can you point me to a guide that explains it (again))?

Thanks
Samuel

Good question!

Typically, when you create a new article, there isn't a menu item created for it (that is, to display the new article as a single article) although you can easily reference the article if you understand the Joomla routing system.

However, there are a couple of other ways that people can see the new articles you create without having to do anything extra. One way is to use a Category List (see https://docs.joomla.org/Help39:Menus_Me ... egory_List); another way is to use a Category Blog List (see https://docs.joomla.org/Help39:Menus_Me ... egory_Blog). You could also use a Latest Articles module (see https://docs.joomla.org/Help39:Extensio ... min_Latest) to display a list of the latest articles you create.

There is an extension that claims to do this though I never got it to work. https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/kazaam/

Another option is https://www.regularlabs.com/extensions/addtomenu.
