Can't save iframes

Post by TomT » Wed Mar 27, 2019 4:26 pm

Joomla 3.9.4. No matter if I use a wysiwyg editor or not when I enter [youtube] embed code it show fine in the preview but when I save the article The iframe disappears. Any idea what might be wrong?

Edit: I found the answer in the JCE faq's:
By default Joomla! 'cleans' content on saving, removing script tags, event attributes (such as onclick, onmouseover etc.) and style tags.
A simple article parameter change is all that is required to fix this.
In the Joomla! Global Configuration, click on the Text Filters tab.
For the Super Users group, or any other trusted user group, set Filter Type to No Filtering. Make sure that you only set this option for user groups that can be trusted as setting the Filter Type to No Filtering will essentially allow the user to include any html in an article.

Most WYSIWYG editors designed for Joomla (e.g. TinyMCE, JCE Editor) strip out IFRAME tags. There are plenty of references on this forum or on the internet more broadly that explain how to allow IFRAME tags with WYSIWYG editors. I suggest that you search for this information.

The iframes were stripped by Joomla, not a wysiwyg. I never had this problem before.

I understand that, regardless of whether people may use WYSIWYG editors or not, IFRAMES (which are a disastrous invention, IMO) are stripped as "prohibited elements". So, I ask again, did you search for "iframes stripped"?

Let me Google that for you: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=iframes+stripped+s ... joomla.org

It can be frustrating, can't it?

I use a free extension/plugin to get around the issue. Works well in my experience:

Check the global configuration, text filters - you can set in there, allow or disallow certain HTML tags such as iframe, object, script etc, as well as at the editor level.

Under Global Config, go to Text Filter settings, and under your user level (such as super user) set it to "No filtering" if that's what you need.

I can't seem to find the Joomla docs info in this but https://www.joomlabeginner.com/blog/tut ... -html-code will walk you through it.
