Can I convert wordpress to Joomla?

Post by aglover » Mon Mar 13, 2017 6:19 pm

Hi,

I am a student that does a fair amount of web development. Right now I am developing on wordpress but I want to move away from wordpress so that I can differentiate my services. Is using Joomla just as easy?

I just finished building a website for a digital marketing company in Toronto (they literally sell websites and then outsource) and they commented on the fact that I used wordpress. They were worried that if their clients found out that they had a wordpress site they wouldnt appear as professional? Do you think if I started building Joomla I could avoid situations like that? If it is possible I would like to convert the website for the digital marketing agency into Joomla. If someone could take a look and tell me if it is possible that would be great.
The URL is [redacted]. Any help would be amazing

Thanks,
Alec

lol, it's a WordPress Site!

Can be converted, but the theme may be a bit of work...

See:

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... migration/
Don't HACK the Joomla! core, Instead "Extend" and/or "Override."
Stay ON the update path.

Yes, you can. But it'll be a fair amount of work. Look in the JED for an extension that converts one into the other.
First and foremost: make a good backup before you begin.
Build both a Joomla site a a WP site on local host, and work there.
A converter will convert the data, but nothing more. You'll have to assign your categories into the appropriate module positions yourself.

Again, make a backup of WP first. Work on local host with that backup, and your Joomla site to be. You'll probably run into problems, doing it life is not a good idea.

Sorry to disappoint you. There isn't a button 'click here to convert to Joomla or WordPress'. Not in WordPress, and not in Joomla. It's not a very difficult job, but it sure can be a lot of work. Depends on the site.

Hi Alec,

You can use WordPress to Joomla converter extension. Here is the link of various extensions for you -

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... rfilters=1

As per previous suggestions, please make sure to take full backup of your website before proceeding with the conversion.

There are so many extension to do the job. Make sure there is no broken link after the migration. broken links are bad for seo. Alternately you can use cms 2 cms service for migration. They have detailed tutorial on their website. Just google it.

I have read a couple of tutorials suggesting the possibility of moving from wordpress to joomla but how about moving a tactical gear website ( http://redacted.om/ )with full eCommerce functionality too?

This is an open ended question and there are no valid answers for such questions.

People use Joomla because that is all they know or simply because they hate Wordpress because their support forums are draconian and completely unhelpful. Now you may tell me that this is my opinion and sure it is my own personal experience and opinion!!!.

You need to use whatever is suitable for your task. I'm surprised such questions are still allowed here when responses are likely to generate useless arguments.

Its very easy to move a Wordpress site to Joomla but of course it take some efforts and knowledge to do that. You are not alone to move your Wordpress over to Joomla and have the benefit that Wordpress can not deliver so of course you should take that step asap!

Its very easy to move from Wordpress to a better powerful Joomla website with better security, easy when you grow and need more people within your site. There are a lot of eCommerce carts avaible free and some you pay for and help from eCommerce companies.

The url structure is similar if you set the up similar of course. Many move to Joomla from Wordpress bcs its more stable and secure if you care about security and need a fast growing site that is easy to handle.

Hey Alec! As many people have already said, generally speaking Joomla is just as easy! As long as you get familiar with it. Also if you are wanting to transfer a site from Wordpress to Joomla, you can do it yourself or if you want to save time, you can hire a freelancer that will do the work for you.

Of course it is if you want a better CMS system for the future and you just install a Joomla site and then a free template framework with a pagebulder you are ready to go.
