Cannot create horizontal menu

Post by rodspri » Wed Sep 11, 2019 3:56 pm

I am using the Helix Ultimate template. I am trying to set up a horizontal menu.

No matter what I've tried the menu stays vertical. It's driving me crazy !

I've tried :

1) Menu Class Suffix - A suffix applied to the CSS class of the menu items, enter nav-pills.

2) Also I've tried with a space, ' nav-pills'.

3) Also ( from https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support ... ontal-menu )

"open modules/mod/menu/default.php and change
<ul class="nav menu<?php echo $class_sfx; ?>
to
<ul class="nav menu <?php echo $class_sfx; ?>"

4) Also I've tried code to CSS (from : https://www.joomshaper.com/forums/horizontal-menu-3 )

( I assume the proper CSS file is '...templates/shaper_helixultimate/css/presets/default.css' )

#sp-top2 .sp-module ul > li {
border-bottom: 0 none;
display: inline;
float: left;
}

Thanks,
Rod

Why not asking the creator? https://www.joomshaper.com/helix since it is not a Joomla issue? Or see https://www.joomshaper.com/forums/horizontal-menu

I Cannot create horizontal menu using Protostar

Post by rodspri » Thu Sep 12, 2019 7:34 pm

I was using the Helix Ultimate template and could not set up a horizontal menu.

I SWITCHED TO USING PROTOSTAR & STILL CANNOT GET THE MENU TO BE HORIZONTAL

Previously with Helix I've tried :

1) Menu Class Suffix - A suffix applied to the CSS class of the menu items, enter nav-pills.

2) Also I've tried with a space, ' nav-pills'.

3) Also ( from https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support ... ontal-menu )

"open modules/mod/menu/default.php and change
<ul class="nav menu<?php echo $class_sfx; ?>
to
<ul class="nav menu <?php echo $class_sfx; ?>"

4) Also I've tried code to CSS (from : https://www.joomshaper.com/forums/horizontal-menu-3 )

( I assume the proper CSS file is '...templates/shaper_helixultimate/css/presets/default.css' )

#sp-top2 .sp-module ul > li {
border-bottom: 0 none;
display: inline;
float: left;
}

Thanks,
Rod

Re: I Cannot create horizontal menu using Protostar

Hmm - I'm using helix-ultimate and protostar and SP Page builder on my site and I have horizontal menus (2 different ones - one on pages using helix, the other on pages using protostar)

For the main menu on Helix ultimate - which is horizontal across the top - you control that from Helix Ultimate template options. You do not assign it to a module/location. Go to "extensions/templates". With "styles" selected on the left, click on Helixultimate. You will open a page with "Template Options". Click on that. On the side menu that opens, you will see "Navigation" - you pick the menu there and set some options. You can also set positions and such in "Layout Builder" from within template options..
Caveat - I have Helix ultimate + SP Page Builder. I'm not 100% confident that you will see the same if you don't have SP Page Builder, but I think you will.
-> I have to say that it is confusing and non-standard.

For the other menu, I have a menu assigned to a module of type menu placed in Position 1 (which is navigation from protostar). In that module I have it assigned only to a few menu items (this menu only shows up on certain pages). I have ' nav-pills' (space nav-pills without the quotes You must have the space before nav-pills) in the menu class suffix.

In template manager, I have assigned protostar to those pages (using template/assignments) and I have helix-ultimate UNASSIGED to those pages.)

Seems to work fine for me
