Link To Text File On Server Redirecting To Home Page

Hi.

We are attempting to gain access to our google analytics account with the help of Google.

Google wants us to put a file on our server called "anaylitics.txt" and then provide a link to that file.

I have done that, but when visiting the link it redirects to our Home page.

So if the URL is something like this: http://www.oursite.com/analytics.txt (that's not a real, valid url)

Trying to visit that link redirects to our home page http://www.oursite.com/

I've tried using the default .htaccess file just in case there was a redirect in our original .htaccess file. That didn't work.

There aren't any redirects in joomla's Redirect component.

There aren't any extensions that would forbid such a link to work.

Finally, I am able to directly link to and view the robots.txt file via my browser. So the file extension doesn't seem to be an issue.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped!

I think it' default config from your hosting provider, you can ask hosting provider for this 404 or 301 page definition.

As a workaround try something like https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... analytics/ . There are others.

Thanks Itheme. What's odd is that I can access the robots.txt file just fine. So it doesn't seem to be the file extension.

Webdongle - I looked at the Extension. That my work if Google allows us another method for account verification. Right now we are trying to verify the account using the analytics.txt file.

Is it a txt file to place on your website or a txt in the dns records?

I think @Webdongle is right. We're not talking about creating a text file in order to verify a property for Google Analytics. We're talking about creating a TXT DNS record: see https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9008080.

Not a Joomla problem.

Yep the file verification is an html file not txt. The txt is to add to the dns records
