3.9.25 - No input file specified

Post by Herkerr » Mon Mar 29, 2021 11:23 am

Hi there!

Our school has a Joomla site, which got updated to 3.9.25 by one of the Admins and ever since, we get the following issue:

Whenever we try to edit pre-update articles, we get: "No input file specified" on a blank page.
New articles can be created and edited without any issue.

SEF is turned OFF, so that shouldn't be the cause of the issue, I've tried those 5-10 year old suggestions on how to fix "the" No input file specified error. This is NOT SEF related.

.htaccess HAS:
RewriteBase /~w17858/ (tried without the ~, then I just get a 403 or 404 Category not found when I try to edit.)

<IfModule mod_autoindex.c>
IndexIgnore *
</IfModule>
As suggested by Joomla admin side message.

Options +FollowSymlinks -Indexes
Options -MultiViews
As suggested in the previously mentioned old articles, though it doesn't seem to change anything.

Please... If anyone has an idea what is going on, help would be much appreciated.
Joomla is giving me nightmares at this point.

Kind Regards,
Pat

Update:
Only affected articles, are the ones which had been connected via "An Article" option to a menu before the update.

New articles are editable even if they are added to a menu.
Pre-Update articles give the "No input..." error even if they are taken off of the menu.

Comment out RewriteBase
Is this the first time you set rewrite on in global config?

Hi!

Thank you for your reply. I've found out what is the issue.
I've been testing and it was really odd, that some articles were able to be saved, some not... So I took a look at the content (by amount, images, html tags, formatting, and characters)

Turns out the error is only apparent, when we try to save an article with the character: "ü" or "Ü" in it...
I'll try to figure out why this is happening... :/ if you have any ideas, they are more than welcome too :)

Kind Regards,
Patrik

It can also be cause by the configuration of mod_security on the server. Contact your host.

Thank you for the tip!
Yes, Immunify360 (or at least it's latest version) was the culprit on our hosting providers cPanel.
After turning it off, it works like a charm.

Have a nice day!
