PHP version issue with Joomla 3

Post by loudy_ca » Thu Feb 11, 2021 1:05 am

Hello, I'm running my Jooma 3.9.24.
on Amazon AWS ubuntu 18.04.7 server.
we upgraded the php version to:
PHP 7.4.15 (cli) (built: Feb 7 2021 12:21:51) ( NTS )

So when we run the command php -v
we confirmed that we run: PHP 7.4.15

But when I login to joomla backend I see the following red message:
Error
We have detected that your server is using PHP 7.2.24-0ubuntu0.18.04.7 which is obsolete and no longer receives official security updates by its developers. The Joomla! Project recommends upgrading your site to PHP 7.3 or later which will receive security updates at least until 2021-12-06. Please ask your host to make PHP 7.3 or a later version the default version for your site. If your host is already PHP 7.3 ready please enable PHP 7.3 on your site's root and 'administrator' directories – typically you can do this yourself through a tool in your hosting control panel, but it's best to ask your host if you are unsure.

How I can solved this issue, please kindly help.

there is no host control panel. as we installed ubuntu 18 to the aws instance server.

Kindly help

Did you reload PHP (e.g. php-fpm or some other php adapter that you use) after the change?

Did you reboot the server after the change?
(not necessary for PHP changes, but sometimes this helps in case of problems)

Is there any reference to the old php version in your .htaccess?

Ok, we can rule out the .htaccess.

Could you do on the command line:

Code: Select all

whereis php
You will find multiple instances (versions) of PHP.
When you run the php -v command, the result it displays is from the CLI version of PHP (7.4).
While Apache is still using the PHP7.2 module...

You will need to disable the old Apache PHP module, enable the new one and restart Apache:

Code: Select all

sudo a2dismod php7.2
sudo a2enmod php7.4
sudo systemctl restart apache2
