Moving site to AWS permission

Post by loudy_ca » Thu Sep 16, 2021 12:15 pm

Hello I moved my site to Amazon AWS instance from my siteground hosting, and I noticed all my folders are Unwritable, as well I'm not able to save my configuration from the backend.

I changed all folders listed on folder permission under configuration, see attached.

I made sure 755 for folders and 655 for files

but still it says unwritable.

I read some articles its says the issue is the files ownership: viewtopic.php?t=896100

How I can fix it in Amazon AWS,

I'm running this server: Ubuntu 18.4

Thank you

How did you move your site?

If you have ssh access to the server and you have root access, then you could change the ownership with the "chown" command. With something like "chown -R [owner]:[group] /yourwebsite/root/folder". Be careful with that and make sure you have a backup before continue.

If you give permissions to the apache user (www-data?) then the web server can write in the Joomla files.
However, you probably won't have access with FTP anymore (until you set the FTP user as owner again).

Alternatively you could consider putting the FTP + Web server in the same Group,
and give folders 775 and files 664 permissions. That way, both the FTP and Web server will have all necessary access.

You have the wrong Web Server to PHP API configured in Ubuntu.

PHP API: apache2handler (Use cgi or fpm-cgi)
