Post by cfg155 » Thu Sep 23, 2021 6:15 am

i have a problem when installing joomla 3.9.23 to 3.10.2 because of pre-update check, it's been 2 days i'm waiting for pre-update check to be done but i think it will take forever, so how do i install update without pre-update check or bypass the pre-update check

As long as you have a reliable backup of your existing J! website (and can use the backup to restore the website back to its original/pre-update condition, in the event that the J! update creates a non-working website) you could click the Install Update button and hope for the best.

ah too bad i didn't backup the pre-condition and also the install update button is not clickable, is there any other way to stop the pre-update check?

You don't have a backup of your J! 3.9.23 website?

Are you not using Akeeba Backup? That does an automatic backup up update of the core system.

Are you updating from 3.9.23 to 3.10? There is no "update check" in 3.9.23. The update check is for 3.10 to 4.0. Maybe update to 3.9.28 first, then to 3.10.2?

Unless I have misunderstood your question, the update 3.9.x to 3.10.2 should be straight forward.

I agree with @AMurray, although I would have to create a J! 3.9.23 website first and see what happens (i.e. does the "pre-update check" run when I'm advised about the availability of J! 3.10.2. What also may be relevant is to read @Per's tip: viewtopic.php?f=710&t=988432&p=3639642#p3639642

i'm actually new to joomla so i don't know if akeeba backup is exist, as you can see from my attachment it's said update from 3.9.23 to 3.10. that's why it confuse me, it should be just normal update

is restoring the joomla site with akeeba safe? i'm afraid it will break the site later, can you tell me the steps?

Thank you for your question, @cfg155. Akeeba Backup has been used by thousands—tens of thousands, probably hundreds of thousands—of people as, perhaps, the simplest, easiest way to package a backup copy of your current files and database tables. I know, I've been using Akeeba Backup for more than ten years! :) It's magic!

Is it safe? Well, I wouldn't be using it if it wasn't safe, would I? Nor would thousands of other J! website owners.

My question to you is simple: what is the current version of J! that you are now using with your website?

For Akeeba help you can't go past their documentation for comprehensive detail. Go to their documentation from the Akeeba Backup Jed listing. https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/akeeba-backup/. Note Akeeba provide support for their Pro products, but their forum / ticket system does list prior public tickets that might also be a handy reference - but first read the documentation for the Backup extension.

Good, thank you! :)

The next recommendation I would make is to go to Components » Joomla! Update and look at the Options button on the top right side of the screen. Click the button. You will see Update Channel = Default

1) Change this to Update Channel = Joomla Next.
2) Save the change.
3) Now change this to Update Channel = Default
4) Save & Close the change

Now go back to Components » Joomla! Update again and see if you are getting the same problems as before?

OK, thanks for your reply and I'm sorry we weren't able to get you "unstuck".

The next thing I would like you to do is to install Akeeba Backup. OK?

After you have installed Akeeba Backup, please go to Extensions » Plugins and find the plugin named System - Backup on update and enable that plugin.

Then, just to be on the safe side, go to Components » Akeeba Backup and make a backup.

Done all that? Good.

Now go back to the Joomla! Update component and ignore all the "pre-update" check stuff and just press the Install Update button. Best of luck. It should all work smoothly. 8)
