Sql error in joomla 3 admin control panel

Post by bike2013 » Thu Jul 11, 2013 12:04 pm

Hello all,

Any help much appreciated.

Receive the following error when login to administrator in joomla joomla 3.1.1
SQL=SELECT * FROM `pre_updates` WHERE `extension_id` > 0 AND `detailsurl` LIKE 'http://update.kunena.org/%'

As a result you cannot access anything in the administrator without clicking on the username under logged in users. Here you see the users profile, click close and then you can access everything in the joomla administration.
There is no such table in the database _updates.

Alos Receive the following error in joomla 3.1.1 when trying to install joommsef Kunena extension.
SQL=SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM `pre_updates`

Please see image showing error here
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/690 ... -error.jpg

Any help with this sql issue much appreciated.

Thanks,
JohnO

Hello alikon,

Thanks for your reply.

In the extensions manager under update I am receiving another sql error related to the same table
SQL=TRUNCATE TABLE xxx_updates.

Is this really a kunena error or a Joomla error?

I believe this is more than likely a joomla issue. In the extensions manager I am unable to uninstall any extension as I receive sql errors pointing to the same table that does not exist.

Example sql error when trying to uninstall a extension
SQL=DELETE FROM xxx_updates WHERE extension_id = 10068

Under Extensions >> Database I receive the following error
SQL=SHOW COLUMNS IN `xxx_updates` WHERE field = 'infourl'

Under Components >> when I click on Joomla update I receive the following sql error
Why is joomla looking for this table?
SQL=SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM `xxx_updates`

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Have a look at that table with phpMyAdmin. Try repair on it.
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!

As stated above the table does not exist. I really require an answer to this problem as I have spent the last 3 weeks developing a site in joomla 3.

Thanks,

You can find the definition in installation/sql/joomla.sql of the distribution set.

Code: Select all

--
-- Table structure for table `#__updates`
--

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `#__updates` (
  `update_id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
  `update_site_id` int(11) DEFAULT '0',
  `extension_id` int(11) DEFAULT '0',
  `name` varchar(100) DEFAULT '',
  `description` text NOT NULL,
  `element` varchar(100) DEFAULT '',
  `type` varchar(20) DEFAULT '',
  `folder` varchar(20) DEFAULT '',
  `client_id` tinyint(3) DEFAULT '0',
  `version` varchar(10) DEFAULT '',
  `data` text NOT NULL,
  `detailsurl` text NOT NULL,
  `infourl` text NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (`update_id`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COMMENT='Available Updates' AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ;
My environment only contains entries for language packages. But I don't have kunena installed.

Hello sovainfo,

Thank you very much for all your help. I do not know why the table had not being created in the first place. I could not view the installation/sql/joomla.sql as it was all done by softaculous installer.

My solution was as follows.
1: I created a new Joomla 3.1.1 install using softaculous installer. I checked the database and sure enough it did create the updates table. Dont know why it was not created in my previous install.
2: I simply exported the _updates table and imported it to my database. This solved all the sql errors I was receiving in the administration.

Thanks again :)
All the best,
JohnO.

Reason why table did not exist:

I found out what is happening to the updates table and it is being caused by softoculous.
When you back up a joomla 3 install in softoculous for some strange reason the updates table is deleted from your existing database.

I noted this after I had replaced the updates table and then doen a joomla backup in softoculous. Then when I checked my database after the updates table was removed. Strange but this was the problem.

Thanks,
JohnO

Thank you reporting your findings, appreciated.

Not sure how the table is used. Maybe it should be truncated instead of deleted.
Or they forgot to select it for backup.
