Install not executing Index.php
Posted: Mon Apr 10, 2017 8:17 pm
I have a private server - Installed CentOS 7 (because Centos 6 only has PHP 5.3.3. Server running on a VMware ESX server.
Installed Apache2.4, MySQL (mariaDB), PHP and all extensions
Setup a Name based Virtual Host on 192.168.0.205 (just in case anyone want to look at it - you can't it's only in a Private subnet.
It seems to be sort of working, because when I go to the URL with my browser, I get the PHP text file for some reason it isn't getting executed (yes the file is set to be executable)
Anyone know what the problem might be?

I eventually found the problem and fixed it. Nothing to do with Joomla, just CentOS 7.
What I can say. however, is that I'm disappointed with Joomla 3.6.
1 I get a message that configuration.php isn't writable. Eventually, I changed it to 777, but it still isn't writable. Finally after 4 attempts I discovered that if you take the configuration.php file out of /installation/model and move it to the root of the Joomla install, it then becomes writable.
2. I created a database both root and a user have all permissions, i spent hours trying to figure out why Joomla refused to recognize either user and their passwords in spite of the fact that I can access the database as either user from any machine in the building!. I made a mistake talking to my wife and accidentally deleted the root password and to my amazement (and horror) it connected. Is Joomla now trying to help the CIA and NSA by making it easier for them (and the bots) to gain access to the database? Before some wise- decides to tell me I forgot the host prefix THIS IS ON MY OWN SERVER and don't have a prefix.
3. After the install finishes, there's an option to remove the Installation folder. That also doesn't work. I had to remove it manually. If it doesn't work, why put it there in the first place?
I wonder how many more crazies I have to deal with now I've moved to the supposedly new and better(?) version. I would expect this kind of thing in a BETA, not a final release.
