Unable to access administrator

Hi ,

I have installed Joomla 3.7.3 and completed the setup of the database and the Web installation on Linux Mint 18.1. I have Joomla installed in /var/www/html/joomla. After completing the Web install using the page at http://localhost/joomlahttp://localhost ... /index.php displayed a congratulatory message and two buttons labelled Site and Administrator.

I then tried to access the administrator panel (a) from the button and (b) by
entering the URL http://localhost/joomla/administrator into my browser. By either method i do not get the administration panel up but are returned to http://localhost/joomla/installation/index.php.

The joomla folder and all folders and files under it are owned by www-data and are in the group www-data and have permissions 755. Te database is created and the tables in it

Can anyone please suggest why the administrator panel might not come up and how to get it up?

Did you delete the folder ../joomla/installation?

That was indeed the problem. I had assumed the button on the installation page would remove it or that it was referring to the unzipped download file (which was in another location)
