Installing on local server

Post by ita4012 » Sun Dec 17, 2017 3:01 pm

Hi. I want to install my website on a local server, to have a copy in which to do some tests.

I install Xmapp on my PC.

I have problems when I import the database, in phpmyadmin on local server.

I get the error message, you can see in the image in attchment.

Is there anybody who can help me to understand what's the matter?

Thanks

I don't know about the error, but how are you transferring your site?

The easiest way, make a backup of your site, restore it to localhost by Kickstart.

Both these utilities are found on akeebabackup.com (Akeeba Backup is found on the JED - both free and pro versions).

I use WAMPServer not XAMPP so can't specifically help with that.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. Infact, after posting this message, I tried with Kickstart and managed to transfer my site. Thanks

Wamp is better imho because you can switch php on the fly. And yes use Akeeba to backup and move the site.

Yes, agreed I found other "AMP"s difficult to update PHP or Mysql or anything - without wiping out entire databases and sites (even though I had backups) but with WAMP, it just installs updates of the individual components, or even the utility itself. Very easy.

Uniform server is another option that change php on the fly but it has issues with zonealarm.
