{Solved] Can't login the adminstrator panel after restoring backup

Postby dottedhippo » Thu Apr 12, 2018 5:20 pm

I was working on an akeeba backup of my site that I installed on my laptop under XAMPP, which always worked fine, when suddenly, after installing an extension, I got thrown out of my administrator panel.

The strange thing is that when I re-installed the backup, an older backup, and even after upgrading XAMPP, I haven't been able to login to the administrator panel. I also tried clearing the database. The frontpanel meanwhile working fine.

When I fill out my user name an pasword, I just stay on the login screen. I tried all passwords I know, and tried filling out a new password in ANGIE when installing the backup. I still can't log into the administrator panel.

I had installed an older backup, which never gave problems, and I could login there fine.

So, when I install an (akeeba) backup to my XAMPP server, I can't login the backend.

Anyone have a clue? :eek:

Maybe I got hacked for I suddenly got a commandline window popup briefly (that windows update throws occasionally also).

Solved it. 8)

Had to change cookie domain to "localhost" in configuration file. :)

Still it is strange I got thrown out after installing the extension. Did it change the configuration file? Was it malware?

Thanks! :)

(So when do I use the cookie settings? :) For instance, we are maybe going to install a forum like Wordpress forum in a subdomain forum.domain.ext where Joomla is in www .domain.ext)

When you unpack the jpa file with kickstart.php ... the installer (packed in the backup) sets all the configuration.

btw
$host = '127.0.0.1';
often works quicker on localhost
$host = 'localhost';

Now I can't login to my production server with the valid passwords. Also, I can't seem to edit the configuration file (I can write it, but the file content gets reset).

It's not on my laptop this time. It is the online production site.

I managed to replace the configuration.php, and changed the cookie settings to site.ext directory /

But I can't login the backend anymore.

It happened when I changed the cookie settings in the backend. After that I could nog login anymore, and even still when having changed the cookie settings in configuration.php.

Nope just run the fpa so we can see if the server is misconfigured.

I want to do that but I prefer to do it while having exclusive access rights to my webdomain. I am currently examining how to achieve that.

You contact your host and ask them for login details to their CP. Then ask how to find (or setup) ftp access details.

I know. That is not what I mean. What I mean is that people don't go surfing all over a site that is in the process of being installed.

That is, I want it to be only accessible from my IP-address.

I can login again in my old site.

Just like that? I don't know. I made a modification to a .htaccess file in the Joomla root that makes SSL possible. Earlier I had that modification in httpdocs. So maybe the latter was wrong and thus caused the problem.

However my hosting provider's website behaves strange, so maybe they have been working on some internal problems that might have caused my problem.

Last but not least, Chrome is having issues too at my casa.

You need to edit the .htaccess to accept only your ip.

For the second time of asking viewtopic.php?f=714&t=793531

I do that, but it gets overwritten during installation.

I have to study that first.

BTW, I managed to restore a backup and change my root password. Everything seems to work.
