Annoying Sample Data box

Post by AlanCast » Tue Jun 05, 2018 12:56 am

After installing Joomla 3.8.8 from the distributive (I chose NO sample data), now I have an annoying box at the top of my backend Control Panel that asks me to install "Blog Sample Data".

[ redacted ]? How to remove that spam message?

PS. I found the solution: there are plugins that can be uninstalled.

Still, dear developers, please remove that spam, for the benefit of the future generations!

We have no issue here and for sure no 'spam' and I justinstalled Joomla 3.8.8 to double check this and it does not occur for me so cannot replicate this

The ability to add sample data after the installation is something that has been requested for a long time; there's some information about the new mechanism here: viewtopic.php?f=706&t=954976.

Although, for new installations of J!, there's a module displayed on the control panel in the J! backend, that looks like this:
j38_sampleData.png
you can easily remove it:

Extensions » Modules
Select Administrator modules
Locate the Sample Data module and disable it (see below)
j38_samleData2.png
Most people would not use this feature (especially if the website is not their very first J! website they've ever installed).

From the viewpoint of the complaint, I guess you can't please everyone, can you? :(

It's not a problem to make a dismissable message in Joomla admin panel.

Making it a persistent block in the backend, instead of easily dismissable message, makes no sense.

IMHO it's just ridiculous.

Unpublish/disable it. 8) As I wrote earlier, you can't please everyone, can you? Geez, six months later and still bearing a grudge.

Well it is just an opinion. The feature we added a while ago based on a large number of requests from Joomla users for this. And we catered with a plugin to switch it off.......That you could not find it initially is seemingly very frustrating for you but does not warrant such reply
