No categories found, says the 404 alert

Post by zonkd » Wed Aug 08, 2018 11:16 am

A 404 error page comes up instead of the homepage - or any page - for ebooktrove.com

I'm just starting to build the site and have two tentative articles, both with a category, 'Great reads' and 'How to convert an ebook's format'.

I deleted the uncategorised category because I will need to categorise all areas on the site.

I suspect this is an old joomla headache. Does anyone know the answer, please?

Perhaps the homepage links to a category that was deleted. If so, edit the menu item.

It is not really a good idea to remove the uncategorized category, it can lead to some unexpected errors, if you can I would recommend restoring the site to the point before you removed it, using a backup of your database if you have one.

Thanks very much, Sharky and fcoulter.

Yes, it seems to be the removal of the uncatogorised category. We live and learn (hopefully). I coulnd't find a way to restore the category, so I deleted the joomla installation and reinstalled. Now a note tells me that if the site doesn't appear, wait 12 hours. So I'll wait, probably till tomorrow.
Will report back, gentlemen. Thanks very much for your help.

Thanks for the thanks, it is always appreciated when the original poster takes the trouble to acknowledge when someone has tried to help them.

However when posting in a forum it is wise not to assume anyone's gender - or species for that matter. Just for the record, I am not a gentleman.
