Could not connect to MySQL server.

Post by Duroncrush » Tue Dec 15, 2020 1:54 am

I am trying to set Joomla 3.9.14 up on a Synology DS220j running DSM 6. I keep getting the error

“Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: Could not connect to MySQL server.”

I have read that it is a connection error usually caused by a misconfigured “configuration.PHP” file. I can not find that file to edit as instructed. I suspect the file is created during the install. I have followed the instructions and have tried installing the required packages in different orders but I still can’t find the file. I am probably missing something simple any help appreciated

Sign into Synology's DSM and go into webstation.

There go to Webstation > PHP Settings > CORE

Scroll down until you find MySQLi.default_socket. The value should be /run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
Change this manually to: /run/mysqld/mysqld10.sock

The configuration.php file should be in the root folder where joomla is installed.

Why setup 3.9.14 when the latest is 3.9.23?

I'm using the prepacked programs available in the utility center Synology provides. I was thinking that would be the easiest way.

It is and config.php is not available until the installation is completed.
The Synology listens on the wrong socket for a Joomla MySQL connection hence the need to change the default.
Once config.php is available it can also be changed in the "localhost" setting.
