This is a know issue and is caused that of your extensions you use is not compatible with Joomla 3.5.1 and needs an urgent update. What components/extensions you have installed? What you use for your "contact_us" form?

I am using the built-in contact_us form. I am only using a couple of extensions.
I use slideshowCK on the main page, JCEditor, Akeeba Backup. That is about it as far as I could remember.

How can I go about fixing it? I can't access the administrator page so any fix would have to be done through my hosing control panel

My web host has been absolutely useless. They have yet to reply.
I really appreciate the help

Not yet. I was told it was an extension that was not compatible with the Joomla update. But I have no idea what to do from here.

My web host is useless and does not even respond to support requests now. They told me it was being escalated, but that was a week ago and I have heard nothing.

I may have to delete the entire site and restore a backup from a while ago before the joomla update. It will take a while and I am not sure when I will have time to do it.

If I hear anything I will certainly post the solution.

I tested one thing successfully yesterday. I accessed my server directory through my web host file manager and changed the directory name for the extension I suspected was causing the problem to "extension_old". This made the extension unavailable for Joomla and the site came back online!

That's not right that you have to change your site... joomla should fix this issue it's caused by their software. It's affecting MANY sites... so all these people are supposed to just come up with fixes overnight? How about letting them have some time to fix this before you send out and update like this...

The ONLY response I've seen so far is 'check Kunena for update'... well they don't have an update to fix this... so people are being forced to hack joomla core to fix their own problems... not a well thought out 'upgrade'...

I have switched email methods and even disabled emails but it is still happening "Invalid address:"

This is very annoying and should not have happened. I realize there are too many extensions that work with joomla and impossible to let everyone know your update may break people's site.. but seriously things like is why people port over to Wordpress....

I have been using joomla for years but am growing tired of having to hack my site to get it to work properly... NONE of the extensions I build for my own site have issues as I don't use ANY function past user info because of this... I don't have time to rewrite things to get it working...

I completely agree. The upgrade should have been pulled some time ago and a fix posted.

At this point, my only option appears to be wipe the site and restore an old backup, one that was saved before the joomla update. I will have to do a lot of editing to get the content current. But we rely on the site to promote our events, meetings and membership. This has been offline for weeks

In Joomla 3.5.0 and earlier, ALL mail related errors were being sucked up, discarded, and ignored by the Joomla JMail class. This gave the appearance that mail sending NEVER failed. Joomla 3.5.1 made a change that caused errors to no longer be sucked up, discarded, and ignored. So you can scream right and left that it's a Joomla issue and that the change has to be reverted, but if anyone here seriously thinks that a core API should just blindly ignore errors frankly I'm going to question your sanity. So yes, extensions do need updates in response to that (be it incorrect use of the APIs which triggered the errors to begin with or data validation that the core platform doesn't do) and no it would not be wise for Joomla to pull the update and "fix" the fact that errors are now correctly raised.

Maybe so, but there should be a fix by now. I realize joomla is free, but It is unprofessional to let it go on this long.

As far as my sanity, commenting would be unprofessional and I will keep the thread focused on the intended, finding a solution.

And as I said, the only "fix" that Joomla core can implement is to restore the mail API to a state where all errors are discarded. Even if the JMail class is updated to catch all the errors so extensions aren't required to process them, it still results in errors being discarded if the API's current documentation (which assumes absolutely zero potential for errors) is followed. The best possibility is one of the patches I've written which may be included in 3.5.2 if so decided but it is still technically a break in backward compatibility by changing the return signatures of the API.

There is no "fix" Joomla can release without blindly discarding errors or potentially breaking more extensions. Sorry to say it. Yes, there are ways to work around it, but after realizing that the JMail class was written in a way that allowed errors to be ignored and make the underlying processing look like it was always succeeding, in good faith I cannot recommend to anyone that the 3.5.0 and earlier behavior be restored as that is more dangerous than the fact that 3.5.1 now throws errors when the mailer API reaches an error condition.

I found the problem but still need some help with the contactus page.

I started troubleshooting by selectively disabling the plugins I added one at a time.

I manually disabled each plugin I added by editing the database, extensions table. I edited the entry for the plugin and changed the enabled from 1 to 0.

It seems that the (extensions, plugins, templates or whatever) that I added are at the end of the table.

WHEN I disabled the plugin cupdater the site began working!

I looked at the entry and version 1.0 is installed and version 2.0 is the latest. Seems like either I missed the message to update this or the component did not notify me that it needed an update.

With the problematic plugin disabled, I was able to login to the administrator page and update the plugin. After enabling the plugin again the site still worked.

So that was the problem

after update 3.5.1 submitting contact form generates error 0

Post by what2use » Tue Apr 19, 2016 11:28 pm

After updating to joomla 3.5.1 I am getting this error when the contact us form is submitted. It does not send the email either.

The requested page can't be found.
If difficulties persist, please contact the System Administrator of this site and report the error below.
0 Invalid address:

I made the contact us page using joomla. If I go into the site menu Components/Contacts all my contacts are listed there.

I am not using any added plugin to handle the contact us form. It uses whatever is built into joomla that handles the form

Test with Protostar not your copy of protstar ... and make sure it is the original Protstar not a modified one.

Addendum
also disable jSGCache and clear Joomla cache

It appears that it may take quite some time to find a solution. Are there any free alternatives to create the contact page?

I fixed the problem. It appears that in joomla 3.5.1 these settings can not be blank. They were blank in earlier versions of joomla and it worked. But the changes in joomla 3.5.1 would not work with this.

Here is what I changed:
1) System/Global Configuration
2) Server Tab
3) Mail Settings Section
4) From email and From Name can not be blank
