Host won't add SSL to my site

Postby savannah8 » Sun May 27, 2018 7:00 am

Hope this is the right topic. I am with a well known hosting company. Have been with them for 4-5 years. My site had SSL and it expired about a year ago. They did not advise me. I had't used the site much during that time.
Now I have contacted them and they have added SSL a month ago but now it is not showing up because of a "mixed content issue".
Apparently 2 links to external pages are stopping the site from displaying the https:..

They advised me to use https://www.whynopadlock.com/results/6b ... 2b43c44599?
Apparently that is for Wordpress.

They now tell me they do not support Joomla and a developer is required to remove the affected content.

Getting frustrated with them. The links don't even make sense...

Any ideas or recommendations for a decent hosting company??

Just asking...thank you

Mixed content is something that the browsers have been reporting a long time, especially Chrome. According to some industry observers, in the future padlocks will disappear from browsers and the browsers will highlight insecure sites more prominently and maybe even refuse to display them.

Is it not possible for you simply to edit the articles and change the links to have https instead of http? Both links work all right when you change them to start with https.

There is a problem on their side in changing the site to ssl as a whole. i don't understand when the site was previously ssl.

You have to identify the insecure links.

For fonts, css and js, look inside the template.

Get a better host.
Have a look at the foot of this page and see the name of a Joomla hosting specialist. (other reputable Joomla hosting specialists are also available!)
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so. Twain

Finally they hung up on me... So have been with two of the largest web hosting companies...they are not interested in Joomla. I am not changing the site. My domains are with a separate host for security reasons. Any links to comparison hosting companies available? Feeling used.

Did you read the report produced by your host? Based on that report, it should be easy to find and get rid of the insecure links in the content and select to force HTTPS in Global Configuration.

You or your clients, not the host, are responsible for the content of the sites.

Sadly the 2 links they provided do not make sense. Over 1000 pages so I'll have to go through them individually.Sigh.

Will be looking for a joomla friendly host. I understand current host is not responsible for the site itself but kept pushing Wordpress.

Had SSL a year ago and they didn't renew it so now have the problem. Just frustrated given the time it has taken to deal with the. Thanks for listening...

There is a quicker way. View the HTML source code of the home page and search for 'http://'. The last two of 14 hits have the URL of the Latest News links where the images listed in the report have been used.

If you change Host the insecure links will not change.

This would have been an issue for you regardless of the hosting company used. As others have said, you are responsible for the content of your site and understanding how it works, not your hosting company.

Plenty of good, reliable hosting companies about, but make sure that, if you do change, you choose carefully. take recommendations from people you trust and don't fall for the advertising and promotional hype.

I understand that it is obviously not my hosting company's fault. I have been told. So is there somewhere I can find recommendations for good joomla hosting companies?

You could start a new thread and ask. Put a link in here to that thread.
