The suddenly of the title of my post has the real meaning that it happened suddenly, I was just uploading some videos to my server (Hostgator), it took too long and as I tried to go back to the Administrator site, it was offline, and then I couldn't login anymore.

The web site (front end) keeps working quite normally, without any error message, after I changed the PHP version (7.4 to 7.3) in the server. Well, that's all I can say for now.

I'll try to investigate about the .htaccess, as far as I understand it, then I'll come back to this forum.
...
No need to use .htaccess to change the php version if you have changed it in the Host's cp.

Crashing while uploading files in Joomla backend should not prevent logging into admin. It sounds like something could have corrupted files in the /administrator folder.

If you feel confident enough you could use the files from the Joomla! 3.10.3 full package zip to overwrite the /administrator folder/files on the server. I see also that Akeeba is installed, depending on the last backup you could use a backup. Would advise testing the backup locally on your computer before deploying it on the site.

Good idea, @Webdongle, about "re-installing" things from backups. On the other hand, this may also compound the existing problem.

When I type https://mywebsite.com/administrator and put the admin name (which I've changed long ago) and the password, it turns blank without any error message and doesn't open the administrator site. Why?
@Per was right: A blank page is a PHP error when error reporting is turned off.

However, the cause of the problem may not become appear simply by enabling J! debug mode and switching the error reporting level to "maximum". Furthermore, the FPA report only shows the most-recent error (or warning message); it doesn't show everything.

With the appropriate error reporting level in place, errors (and warnings) are logged to a file. The name of the file is error_log. It is a text file. The file can be downloaded to a PC and opened with any text editor (e.g. Windows Notepad). It could be a small file or a large file (it depends on what errors and warnings are caught).

If the OP wants to find out what's going on, the error_log is a good place to start. I use this technique a lot; it saves hours of fishing and guess-work.

Well, thank you (and @Webdongle) very much for the try, I'm appending the file "everything.php (just for the last day, today, the rest is endless repeated since a couple of days): I don't know if it helps to understanding what's wrong, it's just a try.

Use the files from Joomla full package zip to overwrite the /administrator folder/files.

Thank you very much.
Well, already done, but it didn't work at all.
I'll try to restore the web site with an Akeeba Backup and then post the result.

Well, it's actually a huge mess, I've tried to restore the Akeeba backup, but it didn't accept the password for the MSQLi database, I did it in my PC (XAMPP server), and it didn't work. So, after changing the Administrator as you have said, now I don't have any access neither to the front end nor to the back end, only to the cpanel of the hosting server (Hostgator).

Meanwhile I've build a new web site in my PC (using Xampp) using Jooma 4 and the same content of the original web site, I'm almost finished with it, it's the only solution I have to get the web site running again.

BTW I'll change my hosting company for a better one.

Thridly when you use xampp or wamp the database user name is 'root' and there is no password.

Hey, that was a misunderstanding overthere.

I didn't make you in any way responsible for the problem. The point is that I had an Akeeba backup in my PC and I tried to restore it in my Xampp server, just to see if it would work. And it didn't because Akeeba showed me the data of the backup with my database asking for the password. That's all.

The reason for doing that it's because I couldn't access neither my front end nor my back end. Nothing more.

Anyway I am very grateful for your attempts to help me.
Have a nice time and good luck for the future.

You suggested to overwrite the administrator folder/files in the server and that's what I did, it had nothing to do with the Administrator password which I had not changed at all.

My first question in the very beginning of this whole posting was exactly because I couldn't access my Administrator back end, suddenly, just like that, since I wasn't conscious to have made any changes before.

And this situation hasn't changed at all.

That's because I tried to restore the backup, unfortunately without any positive results.

So now I'm building a new version of the site in order to substitute the lost one. I have all the content in my PC.

Anyway I have to thank you for the support. Well, thank you so much for all.

You spoke of the database password but like I said ... default on wamp and xampp is no password. You then said you changed the administrator.

I did not tell you to change the administrator, I told you to use the files from the Joomla full package to overwrite the /administrator folder/files. There is a big difference from changing the administrator and replacing the /administrator folders/files.

Changing the administrator (which I did NOT tell you to do can cause log in problems. Replacing the /administrator folders/files should not cause any login problems.

Your best option is to use clean files and your database to rebuild your site. Or pay someone to do it.

After all I got in touch with my hosting company and they are trying to find out what happened to my web site. Until now without any success.

If they help me to get back accessing the front and back end of the site, it's all right, otherwise I will publish a new one with the content of the old one with another hosting co.

I don't need to pay anybody to do it for me.

On wamp localhost
1. Install Joomla of the same version
2. Install your 3rd party extensions to the fresh install
That gives you all the files you need

3. Create a empty database and import your original database
4. Edit the configuration.php (of the fresh files) to connect to your original database.
N.B. there is by default no database password for user 'root' on wamp
That gives you your original site back Database and files.

If after doing that you still cant log in then see https://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_reco ... assword%3F

Many thanks for helping.
I did every step exactly how you recommended, but I must have missed something, perhaps with the file "configuration.php", then I can't recover the admin password with any of the methods suggested in the "docs.joomla.org".
The login window appears, but using the second method doesn't work at all, the login window returns empty lines and nothing happens.
I can't use the first method, because I don't know any valid password for admin user.

It is possible the database is corrupt.

In #__users ... find the ID of Super User
In #__user_usergroup_map find the ID of Super User ... make sure the 'group_id' for that record is 8

In #__assets >>> ID 1 >>> Rules field ... check

Code: Select all

"core.admin":{"8":1}
If all those are correct then simply changing the super user password to d2064d358136996bd22421584a7cb33e:trd7TvKHx6dMeoMmBVxYmg0vuXEA4199 should allow you to login.

You could also rename the admin exile folder. As you are working on localhost it allows you to experiment without worry of breaking the test site.

Is it a commercial or hobby site?

Yep and an error you never mentioned
Error
The template for this display is not available.
There was no record for Isis admin template in the database.
You have several .htaccess files dotted all over the place
Not sure what the build.xml file is

It's going to take more than a quick fix.

I don't know what this "Error" means, the Isis template is there and I never did anything with Isis, not used nor cancelled.
About so many .htaccess files, I also don't know what the presence of these files means, I was not using these files for any purpose.
And so I don't know either what the build.xml file is.

So, if you can do something to assist me cleaning this web site I will be very grateful.
The hosting company will do nothing, I suppose, I keep waiting for a reply one week long.
They were manipulating some files in the server trying to solve the issue without any success till now.

So, if you can do something to assist me cleaning this web site I will be very grateful, the hosting company will do nothing, after one whole week waiting for a reply.
It's more than a quick fix. You could request help in viewforum.php?f=177

I've restored my website from backup and it's all right. No issues at all.

Must have been an older backup than the one that you sent me?

No, it was the same. I followed exactly the instructions of Akeeba (what I had not done in the past) and all of a sudden it worked.

The only issue in moment is with Video player (Allvideos) not running as it should. I get the error message 404, but I didn't post here, I've posted it in Extensions
