Russian Spam Registrations - How to stop?

Post by EmilyB » Sun Jan 02, 2022 12:42 pm

Hi,

our site is being hammered by russian spam registrations in batches of 60 each time. Is there a way to stop this? How do other people deal with it? It is becoming so disruptive now!

I seriously don't understand why these people behave so maliciously and don't put their talents to better use.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Hi. I'm from Russia and I come across russian, english, american, indian and other spammers. Spammers do not have nationality. And they do not behave viciously, but just trying to make money. And I want to note that a professional spammer earns very good money. Spammer programs do not have emotions. This is just robots :) .

The first protection barrier is Google recaptcha in all forms. If it does not help, I recommend that the cleantalk.org service

Agreed. And neither are spammer's IP addresses limited to common IP address ranges from specific countries. Spammers can use VPN servers to change their IP address and apparent location.

I'd also recommend to use some form of Captcha (reCaptcha, hCaptcha) or a honey pot form field.

That's not exactly true. I had a problem with spam from Russia. IP addresses may change, but the Russian mail (mail.ru, yandex.ru, etc) and the names of Russian brands are unchanged.

I recommend RSFirewall (Components => RSFirewall => Global settings => Active scaner => PBL lists (choose Tornewall, Spamhaus, JustSpam.org), also "Deny access for the following browsers:".) and https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/ospam-a-not/ from Joomlashack (100% free).

Looks like you are pretty poorly understand what is spam, for what it is and how it works. #ихтамнетs does not need such a trifle as your site they have more global tasks :D . Hacker and Spammer are completely different things. Hacker never make spam ;)
mail.ru, yandex.ru
Not a problem to use completely any addresses. At least invent your own. It doesn't say anything except to take place tracks.

Of course.
But I understand very well what Russian lies are, because I have to live in this [censored].

By the way, how do you know which site ("a trifle as your site") I'm talking about? Anyway, success to you in your efforts, I hope it pays well.

This conversation is over, I'm squeamish.
