Problems after updating PHP to 8.0 Topic is solved

Hi,
I have problems when I try to update the PHP version from 7.4.33 which the backen complains about.
I have tried to update to PHP 8.0 and then 8.1.
After the update it's no longer possible to navigate the website.
Any suggestions on how to update to 8.0 or 8.1 that are suggested by the backend?

Hi, Ok suspected that something like that was wrong.
I know I need to do an upgrade to all my sites soon and that is quite a big job as all the themes are customized for J3 I am even thinking about quitting due to that... but that's a future problem.

If your superuser account cannot disable plugins (that are enabled) or enable plugins (that are disabled) then you have other problems. Sounds like you have broken your website.

I don't understand what you are trying to say, sorry. I normally use the Manage » Manage to uninstall extensions (but you can disable plugins there). When you write that an extension is disabled "completely" ... completely as opposed to what? I guess uninstalling an extension is the most "complete" way of disabling something but your terminology is a little confusing. As for what Extensions » Plugins displays, it may depend on how you filter what is displayed. In my case, when I go to Extensions » Plugins, all plugins (enabled and disabled ones) are displayed. But again, you may be confusing "disabling" with uninstalling; I'm just guessing. Obviously, plugins that have been uninstalled won't be displayed anywhere in the backend.

Yes, thanks. It worked, but on the other hand this is not exactly solving the issue, just takes away the alert.
The PHP 8.0 issue seem to be something to wait with until I have solved the server issues you suggest.

For other people it can be nightmare, a headache or something they aren't even worried about. Depending on whether you're worried or easily stressed, you may want to put this off until another time.

I can (and do) happily operate my J! 3.x (and J! 4.x) websites with PHP 7.x. I can also use PHP 8.x with some of my J! websites (but some of my websites will never work with the latest releases of PHP). Am I right or am I wrong for choosing to use any particular version of PHP or J!

I make my choices and I'm happy with them. You make your own choices. Don't listen to us: you do what you want to do. I have my own opinions and you can ignore them as you wish. I won't be offended. Good luck.

If a plugin is disabled, by whatever method is used to disable it—either by using (a) Extensions » Plugins or (b) Extensions » Manage » Manage)—it still appears in the list of plugins (and in the list of extensions). That's my experience. If a plugin is uninstalled—and you need to use the Manage » Manage to do that—then it won't be displayed anywhere. I still don't understand what you're talking about, sorry. Oh yeah. The plugin Disable doesn't act like the Component Disable does.

In any case the OP said that the PHP Version Check plugin was locked. So it suggested he was looking to disable it in Extensions >>> Manage >>> Manage, instead of looking in the plugins list.

If what you're saying is correct, mate, and I have no facts to dispute it, it means that there's something "interesting" going on. I think you're saying (correct me if I'm wrong) that Manage » Manage sets some other column in the _extensions table that prevents a plugin being displayed by the Plugins manager. That could well be a possibility. I'm prepared to consider it. You call it "globally disabled"; that's a novel description.

As I say, it hasn't been my experience that disabling a plugin operates differently depending on which method is used to disable it. It's worth spending some time to investigate how the two methods work and how the display functions operate (perhaps) differently.

Off-topic from this discussion and worth its own discussion topic, I imagine. I'll look into it in a few hours from now. Thanks for bringing this up. Cheers.

I did but I double checked and it is not the case. However that is the case for Components.

Of course, components are not displayed on the Plugin manager; they never have; modules are not displayed on the Plugin manager also. I don't know what you're talking about. Thanks for all tips and suggestions and insights.
I am paying for a virtual own server with pretty good performance, at least above the cheap solutins that gives a Joomla site terrible performance. But I am pretty far from a server guru, wow man, I am just happy it works. I can use Direct Admin to upgrade PHP and almost anything. Normally it is a breeze just like sailing as you mention, but this last time was a true nightmare and everything crashed. so I downgraded to the 7.x version and now it works. It is also nice to have the alerts about PHP turned of for now as it is no big deal.
The thing i truly worry about is the big step to migrate from J 3.xx to J4.x
I have done that with one site but that site had no real template so with only a simple text page it was no hazzle. My other sites have old templates and some run on Nicepage and I know they're all gonna be BIG huge jobs to migrate... so in the end it might be curtains down for all these sites.
Only time will tell and the time is very soon....

Go to System - System Information - PHP Information and look for 'Loaded Configuration File'. Usually, especially in a shared server, only the host can edit it, and they are reluctant to change anything. In any case, talk to their support team.
