Content page does not load properly to post a new article

Help! (And thanks in advance)

I'm trying to post a new article on my website. The page normally comes up with a box for text and various menus to do with fonts etc . . . This time all I get is a blank screen with a button in the top left corner. Clicking this causes a box to appear briefly, then disappear. A not very informative screen grab attached. This is very frustrating. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks. Simon Maxwell

Welcome to Joomla forum!

Could you switch on the error reporting? In System > Global Configuration > [Server] Error Reporting
Or via the configuration.php file in the root of your website, change
public $error_reporting = 'default';
to
public $error_reporting = 'maximum';

To get even more info, switch on the debug mode. In System > Global Configuration > [System] Debug System: Yes
Or via the configuration.php change:
public $debug = '0';
to
public $debug = '1';
