Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
Hi,
All of a sudden it seems that all of the Recaptchas are not completing on the Joomla 3 sites, they just sit there and spin. Anyone know a fix for this, other than upgrading to Joomla 4? The later will be done eventually.

Having the exact same issue here all of a sudden also on Nov 10, 2023. Recaptchas are not completing (indefinate spinning wheel).
Does anyone know of a fix ASAP also other than upgrading to Joomla 4? The later will also be done eventually.
Selecting "Submit" (while it's indefinitely spinning) on the form(s) the following error appears:
Error
RSFP_RECAPTCHAV2_invalid_input_response (RSFP looks to be "RS Form Pro", which is in use)

Is anyone using Rocket theme for their template on sites with this problem? Seems to be all Rocket theme template sites to me.

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
It isnt just RT it is 90% of my 100+ J3 sites, switching to Recaptcha v3 or hcaptcha appears to be the only fix

@gingerweb can you please explain which plugin you mean when you say "Switch to Recaptcha v3"?

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
You could also simply use Google's code snippet and copy that in directly and not use a plugin at all.

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
I have lots of different scenarios amidst all my sites but so far whilst fixing i have found:eosfrontier wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 10:45 am @gingerweb can you please explain which plugin you mean when you say "Switch to Recaptcha v3"?
1. hcaptcha.com is working fine on all J3 standard contact forms in place of recaptcha v2 so switch to this is easy and free.
2. For more detailed forms I use RS Forms Pro ( https://www.rsjoomla.com/joomla-extensi ... -form.html ) for most of the others where you can use hcaptcha but also they now have there own "Hashcash Honeypot" must be on latest version to see this, and that is simple to setup, doesnt need any site keys so thats a few extra steps less.
3. I have also switched some of these in RSforms pro to recaptcha 3 which works on some sites as long as mootools is turned off.

@gingerweb - Are you not using ReCaptcha for the user registration/forgotten password pages?

Same problem with me. Still debugging the problem which looks like some kind of iframe or cookie issue.

Same thing happening. Interestingly enough the forms on our pages using Gridbox instead of standard Joomla articles were not affected. Switching the rest of the forms over to hCaptcha in the meantime.

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
After digging for a few days I found a solution that worked for me.
Install the Mootools Disabler/Enabler from https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... r-disabler and enable the plugin. Just leave the defaults and see if it works for you before you start fiddling around. I didn't need to adjust anything.
By the way: it is not Breezing Forms that is in error here. If you are using RSForms, the same thing will happen. The problem is that Google doesn't accept the mootools anymore. If your site is loading the mootools it will prevent recaptcha from working.

Oooh, I'll definitely try that out, thanks M en J. I had planned to try disabling all the scripts one at a time to see if I could narrow down what it was. This isn't the first time that I've had an issue as a result of mootools either. I don't recall what exactly it was last time, but I'm positive it was the cause!

Though I will have to find out slightly different solution where both MooTools and reCaptcha can live together.

An article https://www.rsjoomla.com/support/docume ... error.html on the RSJoomla site explains the MooTools issue.

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
OK I figured it out. In addition to enabling the plugin, you need to go to the autoenable tab and set both of these to disabled:
Enable for article edition
Enable frontend com_users
Enable for article edition
Enable frontend com_users

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
Same problem on about 10 of my joomla.3 sites on 2 servers. All are using recaptcha v.2 on contact email forms only, except for one that also has Eshop in use.
I tried hCaptcha on one site. I thought I had done the installation OK but the captcha is not showing up on the email form, just an error message "Captcha plugin not set or not found." I messed up somewhere.
The lady with the Eshop site is desparate because it's holiday shopping season. I put a notice on her frontpage advising everyone of the problem and telling them to email her directly with a list of the products they wanted to buy...
I don't know if this is part of the same issue but my own J3 site disappeared altogether, first the admin side and a few days later the public side. Code 500 or just a blank page appears. It's all still there on the cpanel file manager.
If any one has any advice on the hcaptcha issue I'd appreciate it. Their support is on github and so far no response to my post yesterday.

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
Welcome to Joomla forum!
Which hCaptcha plugin did you use?
Did you use https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/hcaptcha/ ?
I've just added the hCaptcha plugin for Joomla 4 (latest version 1.4.2) to a Joomla 4 site and did not experience any issues.
- Did you configure the "CAPTCHA - hCaptcha" plugin correctly? Did you copy the hCaptcha "Site Key" to the "Site Key" field and the "Secret key" to the "Secret key" field?
- Did you change the Global Configuration of your site?
Global Configuration > [Site] > Default Captcha: "CAPTCHA - hCaptcha"
Considering that hCaptcha is a free plugin and that people in the Joomla community live in different time zones, what is your expectation about support and the time your support question should be answered?

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
does anyone have any luck on this,
I am also facing same issue where recaptcha is spinning on different J3 multiple websites,
I tried fresh installation of J3 on same server with new recaptcha keys and it is working fine there.
I tried "M en J"'s solution but that didn't work for me.

Could you check if those sites use Mootools?ankurjainitsoft wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 7:00 pmI am also facing same issue where recaptcha is spinning on different J3 multiple websites,
(check the HTML source of the page to see if any mootools javascript files are loaded)

Yes i have checked and mootools is there,
I tried by disabling mootools and recaptcha now is working fine,
but i don't think it is the good solution, as website other plugins, components or modules are using it,
I tried fresh installation of "Joomla! 3.10.0 Stable" and recaptcha is working fine there.
did anyone checked this?

The latest stable release of Mootools was almost 8 years ago, in January 2016.ankurjainitsoft wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 6:54 amI tried by disabling mootools and recaptcha now is working fine,

There haven't been any updates ever since: https://github.com/mootools/mootools-core
3rd party extensions that still use Mootools are IMHO a bit outdated.
I would look for replacements.

Re: Joomla 3 and Recaptcha v2
Hello everyone,
Google reCaptcha v2 keeps loading forever upon clicking it when used in Joomla 3 in combination with Breezing Forms.
We tried different things, like the MooTools enabled/disabler plugin, but it only worked when I edited "./libraries/cms/html/behavior.php" and commented out line 63 to remove MooTools.
```js
// Commented-out to make Google reCaptcha work again
// JHtml::_('script', 'system/mootools-' . $type . '.js', array('version' => 'auto', 'relative' => true, 'detectDebug' => $debug));
```
Cheers,
Mariano.

Yes, it finally worked.

But I discovered disabling Mootools created other problems.
I lost some important tabs for options in the editing view
