"Invitation Only" Registration

Post by gsmela » Fri Aug 11, 2017 10:31 am

As part of an early test of a new site we are looking at allowing users to register in Joomla only if they have a unique access number that we would provide. The purpose being to allow beta testers access while keeping everyone out for the time being.

Are there any ideas on how I might accomplish this? Thanks.

I believe that the extension JRPassphrase (https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... assphrase/) would be of help for your situation/need.

I would exercise caution using this extension as it doesn't appear to have been updated for 9 years (since 2008) and doesn't use the automatic update as all extensions should be doing according to the new JED rules. I noted a couple of security concerns like password shown in the URL. (Read the first review that mentions this.).

Creating an account for them is just as quick as sending them an email and then placing them in the correct User Group ?

Are these Access Codes stored in a database table?

You can write an Authentication Plugin that validates the code. When the Plugin return success, a Joomla user is created.
