Joomla site sometimes show only HTML Source code and fixes itself after 15 minutes

Hi there,

When visiting my Joomla 3.6.5 site from the browser, it only shows the HTML Source code on the home page for 15-20 minutes and fixes itself automatically.

When the issue occurs the meta tag in the head element looks like either one of these:

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="application/rss+xml; charset=utf-8">

or

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="application/atom+xml; charset=utf-8">


When the site works properly, the meta tag is:

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

I am not sure what is trying to change the meta tag's content type.

Any ideas where I should get started?

As pointed out, your joomla is out of date and badly needs updating. That would be the first thing to do before anything else. Also I don't know why the FPA shows Database password as missing (that's a bad thing, unless you're on a local PC running Joomla, it doesn't really matter, but on a live server it is essential)

Yes, we do use a quite a few NoNumber extensions (sliders, sourcerer, Modules anywhere etc).

If they are still "NoNumber" then yes they are out of date; the company that makes them is now known as Regular Labs; the extensions would be listed with that 'author' and not 'NoNumber' if they were the latest versions.

All those in red print in the FPA are 3rd-party extensions and you should investigate if they do have updates. Normally there would be automatic notifications, otherwise, check the JED for each and see if there's new versions available - if not on the JED, check the author's individual websites.

15 minutes is TTL of Joomla Cache Lifetime.
Unfortunately, I only know one solution: Global Config->Cache->Off (System plugin cache may be turn on).
You can use an alternative caching mechanism. For example, JotCach. The result is similar.

Yes, you can use JotCache page caching also in case when Global Config->Cache->Off. In such case first page rendering takes longer time but all next page requests are responded fast from the cache. Regular Sourcerer can be source for described problem. This extension was recognized as stopper for JotCache caching on several sites in the past.

I will be happy if someone offers the best way to solve the problem. The advice of Peter van Westen does not help.

P.S. Of course, I also recommend urgently to update from 3.6.5 to 3.8.10.
