More superuser access rights

Post by LUCKY JLF » Sun Jul 08, 2018 5:22 pm

Good evening everyone,

Due to mishandling on my part, I removed my super user access rights. Because of this, in the administration panel, I can not find the "Global Configuration" and "System Information" sections. Which implies that I no longer have the possibility of updating and setting up Joomla! and extensions.

My backup does not work.

I wish to know how to take advantage of this bad step. How to give back the right of super user?

My thanks in advance

Do you seen any other options (components menu, user manager etc). Which of your backups doesn't work (how were they created?). You should be making regular backups - daily.
Some possible solutions:
(1) Perhaps your host can restore the site to working order.

(2) You change the settings back in the database itself. I'm not sure what you would need to be looking for in such a case - others can advise on that.

(3) Method 2 - Add a New Super User.
https://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_reco ... assword%3F
Although the instructions are designed to recover forgotten passwords I would suggest it may also be useful for creating the new user in this case, so you can then log in as that temporary Super User, to reset the permissions on the other.. You can then log in with the real user, check all is working correctly, and then delete the temporary super user account

Thank you for your solutions.
I will answer your questions
Q -Have you seen other options (component menu, user manager, etc.). :
R -It is no longer possible to set Joomla! nor installed extensions
Q Which of your backups does not work (how were they created?).
A - I can not install the backups (below) as a local server created by Akeeba Backup on 24/05/2018.
Maybe they are correct? This is the first time I have two files and during extraction, the following message appears; "The same volume can not be used as a source and as a recipient"
- site-www.atcr.fr-20180524-133341.zip - 64 137 928 (24/05/2018)
- site-www.atcr.fr-20180524-133341.z01 - 2 147 352 (24/05/2018)
Note; these backups are dated 24/05/2018, my clumsiness (removal of access rights), 25/05/2018. So a backup closer to the date.
(1) The host gave his answers too late. No way to recover OVH restore
(2) To edit directly in the database, I need to know about what and how to act. This may be the ideal solution?
(3) I have already created a new user, but this one has no more right than an administrator and no super user.
What is this link? : https://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_reco ... assword% 3F

Still waiting for a solution. May be clarifications for (2) and (more information for (3).) Suggestions for installing local server backups.
Cordially

Sorry I don't understand your comment about the other administrator user not being a super user (with no more rights that your usual account in its erroneous state). The method to create the user via this tutorial, Click here to go to recover password tutorial, should result in a second super administrator, with which you can reset the permissions to the correct settings of your normal super user account.

If the forum breaks the link (it shouldn't.....), search Google (or https://docs.joomla.org) for "Recover Joomla administrator password" and it will take you to the documentation to do it.

(Someone else might be able to fill in the blanks). If I was in this situation, I would replace the [broken] table _user_usergroup_map with a "vanilla-flavoured" one from another clean J! website.

Hello and thank you for your answer
What is a "vanilla-flavored"?
An " _user_usergroup_map " that works from another site?

_user_usergroup_map is the table that maps user to groups.

It should have a line with your user id and group 8 which is Super-admin.
If it does not exist, add the row to the table.

Hello,
I still have the same problem of site administration. Indeed, I can not update neither joomla nor extensions.
Group 8 in user_usergroup_map does exist. The ID is the ID of the Super_User.

J ' have read two answers and try without success. I'm not very good...
Should I replace the _user_usergroup_map table or only the group8? How, by a slip stick (Mysql guide) or by an export and import?
Thanks for your help.

Your PDF shows that you have multiple entries with the same user id in the mentioned table. So your database is corrupt. Please post the content of the usertable (prefix_users)as well in a pdf. After you post that I will give you 2 queries to run on your database

Most likely you have removed Super User from the 'Special' view/access level. The Admin Menu and sub menus are 'Special' view/access level ... thus Super User needs to be selected in view/access level. This can be edited in the database. There was a similar thread recently ... will see if I can find it.

Re: More superuser access rights

This topic has gone full circle. I agree with others who have written that the solution is a matter of editing the database table _user_usergroup_map. It begs the question how this database table (or the superuser account) became corrupted in the first place. Not that it matters, really, that the person asking the question was fiddling around with user permissions and broke things.

There are several relatively fast solutions to the problem. One way is to revert the site to a situation it was in before the superuser account lost its privileges. Of course, if people are not making regular backups or keeping track of what they're fiddling with, this approach may not be feasible. Another way to improve the situation (although not necessarily cure it) is to replace the table _user_usergroup_map with a table obtained from another "vanilla-flavoured"/unmodified or freshly-installed Joomla website.

Modifying SQL database tables is not for the faint-hearted. If you don't know what you're doing then you can wreck a website; sometimes, even if you do know what you're doing, you can wreck a website! ;) Again, this underscores the need to make sure that the website you're working with has been backed-up and you know how to restore it in the event of some catastrophe.

For people who are proficient in this area, it's probably 10-15 minutes activity (however, it can take half-a-day to organise obtaining access to the problem site). As we see, this problem has been ongoing for several days. Using a web-based, volunteer-operated discussion forum may provide clues but it's really up to the individual to remain focused and engaged.

Fortunately for me, this isn't my website and it isn't my problem. If it were my problem I would be looking into the database tables (as @leolam advised), in particular the _user_usergroup_map and _users tables. Try this (it will take less than one hour to do): create a new Joomla website somewhere (not as a replacement for the affected site but as a place to learn); look at the tables in that site and compare them with the tables in the problem site. Learn from that.

Easier said than done but I'm trying to help @LUCKY_JLF obtain some closure.

Methinks it is most likely the Super User removed themselves from the Special view/access level thus #__viewlevels table needs to be looked at.

First of all, thank you all for your help.
1 - "Super User" I lost them in one click, in: 'system - admin panel - CONFIGURATION - rights (rights parameter). Action, the Super topic column user.
2 - I have a backup of the site of the day before the date of the anomaly. But I couldn't use it on a local server. (Now that's OK). And I have access to the administration of the site.
3. If you want to go to the simplest, what should I do.

Create a folder level with your site folder
Create a new database/user
Create a subdomain for your site and point to your new folder
Install your backup to your subdomain and new database
If it works point your Domain at the new folder and delete the subdomain.
N.B. some shared Hosting packages create the folder for the subdomain under the site folder and that can confuse things

or

Create a new database/user
Import the backup database
Edit the configuration.php to connect to the new database
N.B. If you use Filezilla ftp Client and Notepad++ then you can undo edits. https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.5.8.html
Choose correct version for your OS

Does your Host limit the number of databases ?
