SEF URLs Stopped Working

Hey,

I am currently hosting several Joomla sites on a Ubuntu 16.04 LTS LAMP server. I am using Joomla 3.9, Apache/2.4.37, PHP 7.1 and MySQL. We recently configured SEF URLS through Joomla successfully.

However yesterday I was doing updates/upgrades on the web server specifically PHP from 7.0 to 7.1 following this article here:

During this upgrade to PHP 7.1 it also seemed to pull some updates for APACHE now it appears all of our SEF urls that were working are no longer working and giving a error:

Not Found
The requested URL /government-relations was not found on this server.

I have gone through the same steps that we originally went through when we were successful but it still does not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My mistake, sorry. That article does not mention mod_rewrite, which is required to produce SEF URLs. Do Step 1 from the following tutorial: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ ... untu-16-04

Thank you for the response, however again I said that the SEF URLS were working, then stopped. I have mod_rewrite enabled on my apache server I can confirm by running the following command:

sudo a2enmod rewrite

Which returns:

Module rewrite is already enabled

The problem seem to start after following that tutorial on upgrading from PHP 7.0 to 7.1 because Joomla was complaining when I would login as Admin that I was on an old version of PHP.

I have gone through multiple tutorials on how to setup SEF in Joomla and Apache, however it is still not working and I feel its something simple that is being overlooked but I am not an expert in this area.

Are there any error messages, warnings or notices in the PHP error log? Do you use any third party SEF extensions, which may be out of date?

Hi Tovio,

I have uploaded the script, here are the results. Currently I have the "Use URL Rewriting" in Joomla Global Configuration set to "NO" as one of our users is needing to work on the website and is unable to do that if that option is on since it is not working. If I need to have that turned on to troubleshoot please let me know.

Observations: the values of the php.ini variables upload_max_filesize and post_max_size need to be at least 20M.

At the moment the value 22517 in Error Reporting means that all PHP notices, warnings, Strict and Deprecated messages are filtered. You need those messages reported to get to the bottom of this issue, therefore change the level of error reporting in Global Configuration from 'System Default' to 'Maximum'.

The third party plugin Widgetkit Zoo seems to be out of date, the latest version 3.3 was released a month ago. Was your version of the template Yoo Nite released 4 years ago? If that is the case, it may not be fully compatible with the later, or, in fact, any versions of PHP 7.

Thanks for the help, I have made the changes in Global Configuration to allow "Maximum" error logging. I update the WidgetKit Zoo extension and set the php vaiables to the recommended size of 20M. The template was last updated on Oct 26,2017.

Again all of these things were not an issue a couple of days ago when all of this was working flawlessly before the upgrade from PHP7.0 to PHP7., during that upgrade it had me add a repository to my Ubuntu server for Apache, something has had to change in my apache I feel that is the cause of this.

Again all of these things were not an issue a couple of days ago when all of this was working flawlessly before the upgrade from PHP7.0 to PHP7., during that upgrade it had me add a repository to my Ubuntu server for Apache, something has had to change in my apache I feel that is the cause of this.

Which Apache repository was that?

Now that the level of error reporting in Joomla is 'Maximum', what happens if you enable SEF URLs in Global Configuration? The messages written to the PHP error log would hopefully give enough information to identify the extension causing the issue.

Thanks for responding and helping again. I posted a link to an article I followed about updating PHP 7.0 to 7.1 in my original post: https://jakelprice.com/article/how-to-u ... -to-php-71

While following that and upgrading my PHP it recommended I add thh following repository if I was using apache2 so I added it as recommended, here is the repository I added:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/apache2 (I have since removed this repository)

It is set to Maximum currently, what PHP logs are you talking about? Server or Joomla?

The Joomla error log in /administrator/logs may have something but the PHP error log would be in the default location for Ubuntu in the server, /var/log/apache2/error.log, but you may also have access to it from the cPanel, provided by your host.
