display Joomla version number in admin?

I can't find were to enable display of version number of Joomla in the admin.

This used to be an administrator module called mod_version. Thats what is still in the documentation. And the module is in administrator/modules. It just does not show in the list of administrator modules.

If you go to 'extensions' > 'manage' and search for 'version' it shows it is installed and enabled. ???

Its title is 'Joomla Version' and the position is 'footer'. Change the position for example to 'Bottom' or 'Quick Icons' and you will see it.

It is simply not there. :(

(I mean backend, there is no position 'footer' in the default 'isis' template)

That is correct. Change the position to 'Quick Icons'.

I got no position 'quick icons'. There is a 'type' 'quick icons', with the 'quick icons' module. But no version module.

Am I overlooking something here? I just updated to J 3.9.8.

driving me nuts this.

Edit the module 'Joomla Version'. The dropdown list for Position in the Isis template has 'Quick Icons [icon]', which is then shown as 'icon' in the list of modules.

The 'icon' position is available only in the Control Panel. If you want the version to be shown on other pages in a different position, for example 'Bottom', clone the Joomla Version module and assign the cloned module to 'Bottom'.

Only 2 of my 5 Joomla 3.9.8 sites show this module in 'extensions' > 'modules' (administrator).

On 3/5 sites it looks like this:
'extensions' > 'manage'
So the module is installed and enabled in the system...

'extensions' > 'modules' (administrator)
But it simply does not show in the list...

AHHHHHHhhhhh! YES. OMG. Thank you!

Now why would the version number not be active in a default install? Or at least be disabled as a module. Seems like such a obvious thing to let admins know which joomla version they are working in.
