jos_files MySQL Database Table Size Very Large - How to Reduce

Post by crave81 » Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:17 pm

Hello,

I have a joomla 3.9 site. The xxx_files table in the MySQL database is 650MB. This is an issue, because my host Siteground has a limit of 750MB per database. How would deleting rows from this table affect my website? For example, if I delete a row containing an image file, what would that do?

Thanks

The table #__files is not part of the Joomla core, therefore it must have been created by a third party extension. If you do not know which extension, please post the results of the Forum Post Assistant (FPA) by following the instructions from https://forumpostassistant.github.io/docs/.

If the table has a number of insertions and deletions, it may be possible to optimize it by using a utility like phpMyAdmin and reduce its size.

I agree with @toivo: there is no _files table in Joomla. Perhaps you have a component that has created a table called _files? I don't know anything about that, sorry.

Because the table has the prefix "jos", maybe it was left over from an old J! 1.5 website? I'm just guessing.

Prefix 'jos_' is a high level security risk Change the prefix ( Akeeba Admin Tools (free). Suggest to backup your database and download) after which you delete the table in the database and see that your site still works as expected. When you see an issue you also know where this is originating from. If not you have resolved your issue
