Joomla 3 Administrator Login - Windows 10

Post by bsorli » Fri Sep 20, 2019 5:08 pm

Hello,

I'm having a strange (for me) problem where me and my clients can't login to Joomla 3.9.11 Administrator CP on Windows 10.

I use also use Mac OS and Windows 7 Pro and have no problems logging into http://dmxit.com/administrator from either platform and any web browser on both those systems. Please see how things look from my workstations...

Please also note, that Google's two-factor authentication is installed showing up on Mac and Windows 7 (using Firefox...latest versions). On Windows 10 using Chrome, Firefox and Edge (latest versions), we get this instead

and

No matter what browser I use on Windows 10, I get some generic login prompt instead of the usual Joomla Admin Two-Factor login and password and Google Authenticator interface. Is there by chance a direct login link that will bring up Two-Factor and Default Joomla login page?

I've found no information or reference to anyone else having this problem and thanks as always for the help!

Looks like the OP has password-protected the /administrator folder of the website. See https://www.mysysadmintips.com/other/we ... -directory for information about how to this works.

Definitely an .htaccess issue, as suggested by @sozzled.

As far as I can see the user's O/S would not be a factor, as I get the pop-up prompt in Windows 7 / Firefox and only on the /administrator site, not the front-end.

This wouldn't just happen without you knowing, it takes an effort to set this up. Perhaps your client has done this. Some Joomla security extensions have that capability to set up the htaccess password protection (such as Akeeba Admin tools).

The comment from @bruno28 about SSL is also valid, but may be not directly related to the issue at hand. Having an https connection these days assists with better search engine ranking. You can get a free SSL certificate - try LetsEncrypt or your hosting service may offer them for sale (additional option in hosting account).

It would help if you can post the FPA report, refer to https://forumpostassistant.github.io/docs/ for instructions.

The web browser on the client may have been set up to not accept login forms over http. Try https.

Exactly my problem and Big Thumbs Up! :D

Legacy administrator used Akeeba Admin Tools to lock the Administrator directory and was half working only effecting Windows 10 users. Either way, I updated Akeeba Admin Tools, re-applied folder protection (then showing on Mac or PC), and finally removed the additional protection.

Problem is now fixed and thanks for the help! Brian
