update extensions - could not opèn site Topic is solved

Am trying to get fro 3.10 to 4 and am working on getting our 2 -3 extensions ready. When i go to Extensions, Update i first Clear Cache and then hit Update. This produces a list about 18 items long the first of which says

Update: Could not open update site #1 "Joomla Core", URL: https://update.joomla.org/core/nightlie ... r_list.xml

i've been all over Google and have finally updated my 2 - 3 extensions manually but this reply still makes me think my site is not ready for 4.0 yet. Besides i can't get the https://update.joomla.org/core/nightlie ... r_list.xml to work either (probably due to the same problem). We're running PHP7.4 at this point. We switched to 8 and parts of our site stopped working a started producing errors. Luckily we were able to get back to 7.4.

You have a server problem that must be fixed (Session Path Writable: No ).

Your update path is strange. Looks like a development settings.

In the Options of the updater, change the update channel.

Thanks for such a quick reply! Appreciate your help. i can't seem to find which line to enable in my php.ini file to set the Session Path Writable: to Yes.

In response to your comment about the updater, i was looking at a site which recommeded its use in order to see how ready my site was to upgrade to 4. However even though the three fields are filled out, there is no "Apply" button - lol, so i've been saved by the bell again.

Can you indicate which line in the PHP.ini file should be changed?

I think it may be: session.save_path = /tmp that you need to change, but this would be best answered by your web host. It may even be something they need to set, not something you can do yourself.

Thanks. We whitelisted Joomla!'s updating URL. We also set the /tmp directory in PHP.ini
