Admin Area Dropdowns problem after updating to 3.2.3

Post by cybersalt » Fri Mar 07, 2014 6:16 am

I've been updating my sites to today's release of version 3.2.3 and am finding that after working in the backend admin area for a while the dropdowns (ie in the search tools in the article manager) stop working. I click on them and they just outline in blue.

I have tried emptying the joomla caches, my browser cache and rebooting my computer. At first I thought it was only occurring in Chrome, but after working a bit in Firefox I get the same result.

The problem does not go away when I work in a chrome incognito window either. Turning off all browser extensions does not work either.

When I go to my sites that are still in 3.2.2 there is no problem.

I'm not sure what to try next. Any suggestions?

It's weird that it sometimes works and than stops...

If some corrupted file is the cause then you might solve it via the following method: download a Joomla 3.2.3 full package, unzip it & upload via FTP all files + folders (except /installation/ ) to your website overwriting all current files.
Backup the current website (files + database) before doing so.

I'm getting these errors, too. Updating through the extension manager or using FTP makes no difference. It's also happening on multiple sites.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Edit: Looks like it has something to do with the chzn css classes or something that's manipulating them. Hopefully there's a fix soon as navigating the back end is pretty much impossible right now.

Thanks for the complete upload via ftp suggestion. I tired that however that did not fix the situation, and like tylerancell the problem is on multiple sites. Although looking at his screen shot, I don't even get an empty box that opens when I click. The buttons just sit there outlined in a thin blue border.

I don't know if it is related or not, but my google analytics is not tracking traffic on my site now either - but through other sources I know there is plenty.

All I can say is I'm glad I made backups before updating - if this isn't resolved soon, I'm going to have to revert.

Did you empty Joomla's cache?
Did you empty your browser cache?

Could you test it with a different browser?

I came here because I was having the same problem. It was resolved when I cleared my brower's cache, as per Pe7er's suggestion.

Additional information
Browser: Chrome
Cleared Joomla cache before installing files directly.

Cheers.

I don't believe the back end is cached, but I cleared the caches regardless. I cleared my browser cache but some items are still not working correctly.

I cleared my browser cache and the Joomla cache as well and the problem persists in Chrome. Right now it is working in Firefox.

- correction, it worked in firefox for about 20 minutes and now is broken again.

Experiencing same on two separate joomla installs.

It's something to do with the Isis template for Administrator. Hathor doesn't seem to have a problem.

I have the same problem on multiple sites.
I do not think the cache is problem, rather than a bug

The very same problem here: the funny U-shaped graphics under the dropdowns, and all the dropdown lists are overlapping each other, making them impossible to use. I am using Mac OS X + Chrome. No problem in Safari.

Anyhow, in Chrome, changing admin theme to Hathor resolves the problem.

Switching to Hathor works for me, however, I need to solve this so Isis works as it's the template my clients are used to using - and the template I have made video tutorials for them. My problem is also occuring in all browsers.

Clearly there is something I am using in Joomla that is causing this problem or "borked", but I'm still trying to isolate it.

We also have this problem after updating to 3.2.3.

Tried clearing site cache, expired cache, even cleared browser cache to no avail. Also tried a separate browser that had never been used on the site before to be sure that it wasn't a cache issue - same problem with that browser as well.

It did work if we switched to Hathor instead of Isis, but that's really not a good alternative.

Here is the latest on my efforts.

After turning off a bunch of extensions with no luck and refreshing the admin page to see if that made a difference (resulting in none) I thought to try to reload the page with a complete refresh (crtl-shft-r).

Lo and behold, the drop downs started to work again. However, after leaving the computer for a half hour or so and then returning, a refresh of the admin area showed the problem had returned. All this happened under the same session (which I have set to time out after 60 minutes). Ctrl-shft-r fixed it once again.

I'm glad to have a temporary fix, but still want to figure out the cause.

I was having a similar problem after updating to Joomla 3.2.3; I have totally no issue with 3.2.2.

Thank god that I've done the update via an UAT (test) site, and after a few testing, I found the problem that caused the issue.

Let me guess, are you installing / using T3 Framework as your template system? If yes, then you are just as luck as I am . Please TURN OFF the CSS Optimization and JS Optimization, and now everything works flawlessly.

Some of my drop-down menu (form menu/ input) after installing 3.2.3 with using T3. For sharing, I also encounter problem with below extensions after the upgrade.

- AdAgency
- Zoo
- Hikashop

Except Hikashop (I need to use CSS to manually remove the vote menu) , all will be fixed by just turning off CSS/ JS optimization inside T3.

Hope this help.

Hi, same problem here, Joomla 3.2.3 with any browser (IE, Chrome, FF), also in menu items list. The "Clear" button seems to be not working too.
Any idea?

Thank you very much

I got a temporary solution. I am still observing if it will stay ok

I simply used Extension Manager-Discover and installed everything i found there. Then I went to the Database Tab and clicked "Fix"

Voila! The drop downs and now working fine

Please backup before you install stuff from the discover list. I am not sure, but you could restore an extension that could be faulty

I had the same problem and the only way I could think of solving it was to find the module/plug in that was causing it. So I installed a fresh copy of Joomla, kept my old database with everything on it and started replacing folder by folder everything back. Checking each time if the problem was solved I finally figured that when the only folder missing was the JOOMFEVER plugin, my site was working properly and the problem was solved. So right now my site has its old database and all the old files except the folder joomfever in joomla/plugins/system.
so I guess all you have to do is turn it off from the joomla backend or as I did remove the whole thing if you have direct access to your files.
I hope it works for you too!!

Thanks j03y13!

I renamed the joomfever folder and my search tool drop-down has returned. Did not notice any other ill effects.

Cheers!

Dropdown Backend dropdown glitch

Post by makedifferent » Mon Sep 29, 2014 10:02 am

Hi,
As a lot of people, I had this glitch where the dropdown stopped working after my Joomla 3.3.4 update. When clicking on the dropdown list element, nothing appeared. So I've searched and tested all the situations described in the following topics:

viewtopic.php?f=708&p=3157840
viewtopic.php?f=709&t=837957
viewtopic.php?t=249201
viewtopic.php?f=708&t=857405
viewtopic.php?f=433&t=784493

All without success, so here is the working solution I found.
In fact, the dropdown area was not displaying at the right place.

Open your FTP path to:
www/administrator/templates/isis/css/template.css

And just add these two lines at the end of the file:

div.chzn-drop{
position:absolute!important;
left:0px!important;
}

save your file and reload

@j03y13
You rock!

I needed a contact form for my site and I installed ContactForm Pro Plugin from here:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... orms/19094

Although I uninstalled it, the Joomfever plugin stayed in joomla and it was active. I uninstalled it too and everything is just fine.

Thank you.

Exactly what I faced after upgrading to joomla 3.4 - thank you!

Sorry for bringing back this old topic but the solution for me was to replace the JUI folder inside media with a fresh one download from the joomla website. Happened because my server had wrong permissions when updating the folder and the system user messed everything up.

@djonatanb posting in a 1 1/2 year old topic makes no sense. You won't get proper support. Open your own new issue so we can help?
