Re: very slow website after upgrading to jooma 3.8.0
Are you seeing any load on the database server? If yes, can you enable the slow queries flag in your my.cnf configuration file and post back the slow queries here?

The CPU load is caused by the database load. Please enable slow query logging.

The cached content is probably invalidated. It takes CPU to rebuild it.

Re: very slow website after upgrading to jooma 3.8.0
I, too, experienced a very slow website after the update to Joomla 3.8 at about 9:30 am on 9-20-17. I contacted my webhost, IXwebhosting, (I have a cloud account) and they responded:
"I have rechecked your server and found that the load on your server is higher than usual, which results in overall server slowness. The load on the server started today approximately at 09:30 AM. The most load comes from the civilwarrichmond.com website.
While monitoring the server I notice that MySQL server makes long requests to 'civilwar_richmond' database, some of them took 5 seconds, which is a lot for the MySQL. At the same moment, the civilwarrichmond.com error log doesn't indicate any errors."
I restored my website back to Joomla 3.75 and all is good again.
