Joomla 3.9.20 with High CPU usage
Hello folks
I upgraded my site from from 3.9.19 to 3.9.20 recently and now the CPU usage is very high. I tried checking the site keeping it in offline mode, to ascertain if it is being caused by large number of visitors(ours is a news portal) but the CPU usage remains the same. I contacted my host and they say the usage is from
lsphp:/home/XXXXX/public_html/index.php
lsphp:/home/XXXXX/public_html/index.php
lsphp:/home/XXXXX/public_html/index.php
lsphp:/home/XXXXX/public_html/index.php
which I think is difficult to trace the cause of the problem. We haven't had this problem before and we are at our wits end on how to solve this.
Please help.
Thank you

Re: Joomla 3.9.20 with High CPU usage
Hello
Suddenly the usage of CPU has dropped to 30/100, without any intervention from my side(that too during visitors visiting the site). We are on a shared hosting and everything works without any hiccup earlier. Don't know if this is due to the shared hosting thing or a problem from the hosting people.
The URL of the site is https://rb.gy/ahygnx

First I would try to change you PHP version to at least 7.3 (7.0 is out of support, EOL).FPA Report wrote:PHP Configuration :: Version: 7.0.33

Some extensions are out of date e.g. RSFirewall - shows 2.10 but the latest is 3.0.0 (June 2020).
Malwarebytes doesn't trust the site URL and blocks it.
What is the score 30/100 representing? That's a high CPU usage? What is considered low or normal usage? (What tool is measuring CPU usage?).
It may not be your site, you said you're on shared hosting, maybe another site (or sites) causing the issues.

Re: Joomla 3.9.20 with High CPU usage
Noted. I have tried switching to PHP 7.3 but the CPU usage remains the same. There are some extensions that relies on PHP 7.0, that's why we have reverted back to 7.0. Will be replacing it very soon.First I would try to change you PHP version to at least 7.3 (7.0 is out of support, EOL).
I will increase the max post size.Max Post size should be >= Upload size. 128M (Post Size) vs 1G (Upload Size).

We are no longer using RSFirewall, as our license has expired and we have disabled it.
Is it the Malwarebyte software or some web scanner that is available online??Malwarebytes doesn't trust the site URL and blocks it.
I am referring to the statistics available in cPanel. Earlier it was 100/100. Now suddenly, without any intervention from our side, the CPU usage has dropped. What is the score 30/100 representing? That's a high CPU usage? What is considered low or normal usage? (What tool is measuring CPU usage?).
Yes, I feel the same. Because if it was from our side, the CPU usage should remain the same as we haven't made any changes. When I contacted the hosting people, they asked me to upgrade my plan to a more higher paid plan. What I feel is, if indeed the site is taking much resources, then the site should be using CPU resources now too, but it is not the case. Now the site is loading fine without any problem as compared to before. It may not be your site, you said you're on shared hosting, maybe another site (or sites) causing the issues.
Maybe it is time to change my hosting..
Thanks for all the valuable inputs.

Session lifetime: 150 | Session handler: database
Change Session handler to php. More efficient than using the database.

Re: Joomla 3.9.20 with High CPU usage
30/100 - to me that says "30% usage" (rather than 30% no usage).
I use Malwarebytes (full software) and the plugin for Firefox browser. It tells me your site is *unsafe* (might be a false positive).
I'd uninstall RS Firewall than simply disable it.
The CPU usage may also be influenced by behind-the-scenes processes being run that you aren't aware of. Perhaps a badly written script or extension that unintentionally consumes but doesn't release system resources (like CPU cycles or memory) when they are finished executing.

Re: Joomla 3.9.20 with High CPU usage
Hello
Thanks everyone for the response
Thanks again.
Thanks everyone for the response
Yeah, right. As of now, the problem of high CPU usage has gone..30/100 - to me that says "30% usage" (rather than 30% no usage).
Maybe I will contact them to remove my site from unsafe list, as our site is completely safe.I use Malwarebytes (full software) and the plugin for Firefox browser. It tells me your site is *unsafe* (might be a false positive).
Yes, that's possible. Will continue to monitor the CPU usage. If it spikes again, I am gonna check it by disabling all 3rd party extensions and tracing the resource hog extension. The CPU usage may also be influenced by behind-the-scenes processes being run that you aren't aware of. Perhaps a badly written script or extension that unintentionally consumes but doesn't release system resources (like CPU cycles or memory) when they are finished executing.
Thanks again.

Malwarebytes tends to be quite aggressive in its reports, which classify a number of Top Level Domains (TLD) and less frequently used download sites as suspicious. The Zscaler URL Risk Analyzer gives your site a clean bill of health.

[off topic (response to @toivo) ]Yes, I've come across the "less frequent downloads" issue with Malwarebytes, even though it's a well known product on the JED.

Google is not that kind for your site. You have some work to do. I suggest to carefully read what this all means and act as per advise. Also I advise to install JCH (read the docs well before changing settings in JCH so you understand. JCH will solve about 60% of your issues with cross reading the Google stats. GTmetrix is similar unkind to your site https://gtmetrix.com/reports/imphaltimes.com/VMSIObvt. 13 secs loading time is blowing visitors away!
No offense meant but you do have a ton of work to do!

Hi. How I can change handler to php? I see only database and memcached.Per Yngve Berg wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 7:45 pm Session lifetime: 150 | Session handler: database

It shows what is available on your server.
memcached is perfect for storing sessions.

Re: Joomla 3.9.20 with High CPU usage
I use it in production without any problems. It's stored in memory, so the sessions is lost with a restart of the server though.
