How to parallelize downloads across hostnames in Joomla?

Post by thebasix » Sun Nov 22, 2015 10:32 pm

So I've tested my website with pingdom and this part is the worst.

So is there a way to improve this "Parallelize downloads across hostnames" part somehow?

Regards

Sure there is, but you need to know what you're doing here.
What it means is, that your site can be faster if you use sub domains for images/css/js etc. since browsers use a limited number of connections for parallel downloads.
Simple explanation: If that number is 6 and there are 10 images on your site, 4 images have to wait since only 6 are downloaded in parallel.
To improve this here is an example for images, use a specific folder for all your article images, create a sub domain articleimages.example.com and point it to that folder and than load the images over that sub domain instead of your regular domain.

@RedEye sorry to bring this old thread up again, but when I put all my article images in a subdomain folder and point my article images to that, will that speed up the load time of the actual website? On one of my websites I have for instance 57 images. Will I see a significant change in loading time?

Once again, sorry for bringing this old thread up again.
Thanks in advance. 8)
The problem is not the problem.
The problem is your attitude about the problem.

If you will see a "significant" change depends on more than that... image size, your connection speed, etc. etc.
It will help for sure, yes!
You can also take a CDN.

Btw: next time it should be enough to post to a thread, since i not really like reading the same question 6mins later in my private message box... ;)
