"The connection was reset" error on some articles

Post by jdmoore0883 » Wed Aug 31, 2016 6:23 pm

Hey guys!

This has been a bit of a long-standing issue that has gotten much work and effort, but little to no improvement.

The short of the issue is that some articles aren't loading.. They are giving some "The connection was reset" errors. The issue persists across any and all browsers, internal or external to my network. I have tried restoring a backup, to no avail. I tried enabling and disabling various plugins, modules, add-ons, etc... Nothing changed. While troubleshooting this I discovered some hardware failures on my webserver, and have rebuilt a new server on new hardware. I then restored my site using Akeeba Backup/kickstart, and lo and behold, the issue persists!

In the backend/Administration side of things, everything works fine. I can view/edit/save the article without issue.

To add to the confusion, if I "Save as copy", the copy works just fine (though the URL winds up changing, so I cannot use this as a "solution").

I have posted a few other topics on this matter, and though I got a couple of responses, nothing has brought me any closer to fixing this.

I am at my wits end here, and have NO idea where to go with this next...

What can I do to figure out what's wrong here? How can I fix this? Please, any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Connection Reset is a web server side condition. There can be many root causes:
server too busy
too many SSL connections
SSL Cert error
logon/registration failures + poor programming practices
the dns, the website or something in the path of access.

Thanks for the response, allow me to address your suggestions below:
dhuelsmann wrote:server too busy
A - Doubtful. It is not accessible from the internet at this time, and I am the only one accessing the site internally.
dhuelsmann wrote:too many SSL connections
A - Doubtful, not only for the reason above, but SSL isn't used to begin with.
dhuelsmann wrote:SSL Cert error
A - SSL not in use.
dhuelsmann wrote:logon/registration failures
A - No logins needed to get to the articles in question
dhuelsmann wrote:poor programming practices
A - I have not altered any files. And given that the exact same article works just fine it is Copied, I can't imagine how this could be.
dhuelsmann wrote:the dns
A - DNS is good. I have additionally tested with just IPs (and appropriate configuration changes on the Joomla side), and this had no effect, the rest of the site worked, but the issue at hand persisted.
dhuelsmann wrote:the website
A - I suspect THIS is likely, but I cannot figure out how/why; thus the forum posts.
dhuelsmann wrote:something in the path of access.
A - I have gone so far as to put a very simple switch between the server and client; the issue persists.
