High browser CPU usage / tab freezes

Post by EvanGR » Wed Apr 24, 2019 7:04 am

Hello,

We maintain an e-shop (Joomla 3.x/Virtuemart 3.x). In the past few days, certain pages tend to crash/freeze the Chrome browser (and Firefox to an extend). Tested on 3 separate PCs (Windows 7, and 10).

It's very hard to troubleshoot, because the browser tab freezes, and so do the browser developer tools. CPU usage goes high, and the page becomes completely non-functional, except maybe scrolling.

Online malware checking show everything's fine, so far.

I am suspecting a javascript issue, but it's strange that javascript code can cause a browser hard freeze.

Any idea what we might look for next? Or how to troubleshoot?

Thanks

Have you tried to change the hosting? Do you use cache on website?

This does not sound like anything to do with hosting. I would recommend you to disable any plugins that you have added to your Joomla and see if that fixes it.

Thank you all. The issue has been fixed.

The 3rd party template was using an older version of jquery (1.11), which I updated to latest 1.12. This fixed the problem.
