non-profit site speed problems?

Hello there!

I am trying to setup a non-profit site detailing my experiences in life ,especially the healthcare system!

Interstellar rockettheme template
not many extension at all.

my site, under speed tests, is showing very slow load times. I have tried the recommended improvements, but not much luck. Is it mostly my garbage hosting provider that is the problem here or something else, or combination?

I am usually a RTFM kind of guy, but I am new to Joomla!

Can someone asssist at all or give hints?

Welcome to Joomla forum!

I suppose that it's partly the hosting, but you could try to optimize a couple of things:
optimize your images to decrease their size while keeping the same quality.
combine your CSS and JS files, e.g. using JCH Optimize.
