com_contact missing in admin menu

Postby Vinamis » Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:03 am

Hello J-experts,

After updating from J340 to J374, I remark now that the com_contact entry point is missing in administration menu.

If I enter directly the url .../com_contact, it works fine.

How can I make it visible again in admin menu ?

TIA,
Vinamis

Have you cleared the cache in the browser? That usually helps after an update.

Yes the cache has been cleared.

In fact, other components are also missing, like newsfeeds... etc.

I can see :
- Jevents
- Multilingual Associations
- Post-installation messages
- Tags

Any idea how to fix this ?

Kind regards,
Vinamis

Yes I used 'discover' during the upgrade.

Now it shows : No Matching Results.

Could there be a problem of permissions ?

Kind regards,
Vinamis

It's unlikely to be a permissions problem; more likely to be an issue with the [b_]menu[/b] table in the database. We've had similar reports of this same problem before (and it surprises me that people asking, as well as answering, this question have not searched for "missing menu items in admin"). See viewtopic.php?f=708&t=952625.

Thank you for this interesting link.
Sorry, I searched for contact missing.

In my case I see that in umtsp_menu table, the field published is 0 for contacts and categories.
I think it should be 1.

Is it a way to activate it via the Joomla admin interface or should I change each row in mysql table without risk ?

Kind regards,
Vinamis

Dear J-experts,
It is solved.

Finaly I only changed in mysql the column 'menutype' in the #_menu table from 'menu' to 'main'.

All menu items are back in the administration - components.

Thank you for your efficient support.

If someone can explain the possible reason of this wrong value ?

My installation uses french and english languages.

Kind regards,
Vinamis

I searched the forum to try to find an explanation for this mystery. From what I could find, this problem mainly occurs in some cases where the Joomla sites have existed for several years. In those cases, [some] admin. menus were assigned to the menu=menu instead of menu=main in the database; in some other cases, the menu items were mysteriously unpublished. From around the time of J! 3.7.x—it could have been earlier (e.g. J! 3.6, I can't be sure)—admin. menus needed to be assigned to the menu=main in the _menu table.

I don't know why these things occurred; I experienced a similar problem with a couple of my own sites but I was able to resolve it by fixing the _menu table. Perhaps, we can't be sure, one (or more) updates from an earlier version to a later version didn't apply certain modifications that were needed?

In any case, I see that you were updating from J! 3.4.0 to J! 3.7.4 (which indicates that you should probably be maintaining your website more regularly). We receive a lot of questions from people who do not regularly maintain their Joomla software and, when they update—sometimes one or two years later—they encounter strange, unexplained problems.

The main point is that you've resolved your problems.

This "missing components from the menu" issue has been discussed in several places before (the following is a list of some examples):
