Upgrading from 3.2.7 fails

Post by jn6464 » Sat May 08, 2021 7:10 am

Sorry for my newbie question, but I am trying to upgrade from the ancient 3.2.7 version, which I thought is still the latest one since the admin interface tells me so. A perfect case of total ignorance by a casual administrator.. :D

I have downloadeded the 3.5.1 update package and expanded it to our server. When executing the postpupdate.php script there is this error:
Failed to finalize the upgrade, please check the logs for additional details.

However that log file joomla_update.php doesnt really say much at all:

Code: Select all

#Software: Joomla Platform 13.1.0 Stable [ Curiosity ] 24-Apr-2013 00:00 GMT

2021-05-08T06:46:28+00:00	INFO	update	Finalising installation.
We got PHP V5.6 active at the moment. I tried to switch to the latest available, but that caused many many unfortunate side effects, so decided to go back to PHP 5.6... Will try to upgrade it again later, once Joomla is up-to-date. But is that the right sequence?

How to recover from this - and how to determine the actual error right now?

Get 3.4.8 first and install as an extension. From there and up, you have to use the Joomla update component.

Please post your Forum Post Assistant so we can review your server set-up. See red frame above.

Big hand to Per Yngve; your guidance completely fixed our issue here. There was a bit of extra struggle because the two-factor authentication wanted to turn itself back ON during the update, but we managed to overcome that. Now both Joomla and PHP are current again.

I haven't checked our website properly yet, but one distinct new feature is the Font Size selection showing up in the header. Can that be disabled from the admin UI these days, or is some manual fix needed?

Font Size selection is a feature in your template.
