Upgrade from 3.6.5 Failed, Site Down

Post by kyl4 » Wed Jul 21, 2021 12:34 am

Hello,

I built a Joomla site for a family friend's business many years ago. I specifically used Joomla so that it would be easy for them to maintain on their own.

Unsurprisingly, they haven't maintained it at all, and recently reached out to me because they were getting errors trying to upload new content using the admin panel. I immediately saw the big "you should update" banner and said they should update. Unfortunately the update failed "about 45% of the way through" and the site displays the following:

Code: Select all

Fatal error: Class 'Joomla\Utilities\IpHelper' not found in /home/content/96/8319496/html/includes/framework.php on line 120
Messing with that file to remove that line (since they're not using a proxy) just produces further errors:

Code: Select all

Warning: strstr() expects parameter 1 to be string, object given in /home/content/96/8319496/html/libraries/joomla/cache/controller/callback.php on line 63

Warning: strstr() expects parameter 1 to be string, object given in /home/content/96/8319496/html/libraries/joomla/cache/controller/callback.php on line 69

Fatal error: Call to undefined method JApplicationAdministrator::isClient() in /home/content/96/8319496/html/administrator/components/com_login/models/login.php on line 146
I have not used Joomla in years and am drawing a blank here on helping them fix this. They use GoDaddy but don't have the "cpannel" required to just restore from a backup or I would've suggested that.

I ran FPA on the site:

Email sent to the OP with an offer to walk-through the issues via teleconferencing (if that approach is acceptable).

@sozzled, that is not acceptable, the rules of the forum are clear about contacting members directly:

I was not "soliciting work" (to use your expression). I wrote to the OP because it would take several days (or weeks) to "walk through" a solution that might be acceptable to the user. I am not using this forum to "solicit" paid work—I have never used this forum to obtain work and I am happy to provide you with a number of examples (or put you in contact with people whom I have helped over the past ten or more years) and not one of those people has ever paid me for the hundreds of hours that I have spent helping them.

Using the forum to publicly name (and attempt to shame) volunteers is also against the forum rules and I think you should carefully consider how you are using this forum and your position as a forum moderator in that regard.

We cannot see your intention, if you are offering free or paid support to other forum users.

Why did you post:

It can be interpreted as an offer for paid work.
Or an advertisement / invitation for other people to hire you for paid support via teleconferencing.
Both are not allowed.

Why do you use the forum to publicly attack Toivo, who is another volunteer helping out as moderator?
