If you have only backed up the database, you could restore the database and export the content. For example, the table xyz_content would contain the contents of the articles - one row per article.

If you have backed-up your entire site, you could restore it and try to use some third party extensions such as J2XML (https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/j2xml/) to Export and Import the data.

Feel free to post your requirements to the Professional Development Services forum so that interested Joomla specialists can contact you. Read the instructions in the sticky topic first.

The best—the fastest, most efficient—thing to do if you have questions about Wordpress or HostGator is to ask your question on the Wordpress support forum (https://wordpress.org/support/forums/) or write to HostGator (https://www.hostgator.com/help/article/ ... -hostgator). 8)

This person (whoever he is...he never introduced himself)) has contacted us through the Joomla forums to our email and we have looked at the sql-file he has on his dropbox account (no site backup)

3x databases inside the file: Joomla 2.5, Joomla 1.5 and a WP site. All with only a single super user. It does not make sense to spend a lot of money on a site with either outdated data and no user data (Kunena extension in J25 site for instance has no entries) or any entries anywhere besides plain installation data so we have advised this person to just reinstall Joomla and the extensions used and he will be ready in 30 minutes for recovering his database entries with fresh Joomla extensions (which could be done without any issues). Actual site is costacaptain.com which is a WP-site so not clear what this person actually is looking for on a Joomla forum

This person is a sport fishing captain with limited knowledge. Leo tells me what to do. What Leo doesn't understand is i don't know how to do what Leo is advising.

I have old content that I want access to so I can use that info on my new site. Customer testimonials, photos, fishing information about tides, time of year, etc. Work that I would not like to do again.

So Leo. I am looking for someone who understands my needs. That wouldn't be you. Thanks for the explanation hopefully the company who can help will find it useful.

This is a self-help forum for people looking to solve problems.
The biggest problem here is that the OP has a pile of data looking for a new home but the OP doesn't understand how they might conceivably use that data. This forum is to support people who want to work with J!; this forum is not here to support people who want to take data from a J! website and rebuild it using a different CMS technology. There are lots of services available where people can do that, if they wish.

Tough luck! Even if this is work that you would not like to have to do again, it's work that someone has to do. Trust me: I don't enjoy doing work of any kind!

Time spent on doing work for someone else is time that is not being spent on working for oneself. If people don't have the required know-how or equipment needed to do some piece of work then you pay people who have that knowledge and the tools of the trade to do that work.

You have everything you need to know in order to get any job done.

So Leo. I am looking for someone who understands my needs.
I do understand your needs but the problem is that you only have (and mostly empty) old database info from old versions of Joomla and WP but the Dropbox folder you gave to me does not contain any other folders but for the database as mentioned. So if you have no images nobody can restore that data for instance since the database stores the path to the images folder where they are located but won't be able to find that info since it is not present.

Anybody Joomla developer could restore your Joomla J25 website because we can see what extensions you have used for instance from the database but it would be a limited installation since you are missing crucial files that are not present on the dropbox link you gave to me. Therefore I advised you to build on the latest Joomla from scratch. Now if you only need certain content you can have the Joomla 25 website restored and copy/paste that content into your WP website or use an external service to migrate the Joomla25 site to WP (cms 2 cms for instance) (That the data from Joomla should be used to add to a WP website was never communicate with me btw)

GWS makes a living from serving people but since you have not provided proper information and files are not present your requirements cannot be fulfilled and therefore we said "rebuild" which advise should be corrected to "Rebuild in WP)

Goodluck

Y'know, Leo, this topic has been kicking around for eleven weeks (nearly three months) and hasn't progressed anywhere. If the OP was genuinely interested in resurrect their website or sites (?) from the dead, you would have thought that some progress would have been made by now.

I am an optimist by nature; however, no amount of optimism can restore life once it's extinct. If the OP has a different opinion then that's OK by me.

I've patched together broken websites from shattered remnants but, in this case, it would take a miracle to satisfy the OP's needs no matter how much money was being offered. It would be interesting to know how much money was being offered ... (well, how much money is on the table?)

As I wrote before, and I'll repeat it again

I hope that now this discussion, like the OP's website(s), can now be allowed to die peacefully. 8)

Got that thanks Claire. It is sad that somebody (owner) does not realize these things "You have been hacked, buddy!"
Sadly he only posted his SQL file to me so could not check his files

But of course, I do not understand these issues :D Agree 'Jeremy' ? I am so dumb...(and Oops how could I find out your real name IRL if I would not have visited your current site? -you did not introduce yourself in your emails-)
