updating 3.9 -> 3.10

I have problem to update my joomla site from 3.9.6 to 3.10.4.
My site is the following:

when I try to update using "Live Update" tab
then, if I try to update with "write files directly" I obtained:

then I try with "Upload & Update" tab:

first I download the update in my folder(zip file)
then select the update file by browse button
insert administrator password
and obtained:

I check in configuration.php that the folder tmp and folder logs exists and in the server they are writable and readable.

in the past i tried to update and had problems so i decided to wait a new update but I have to update now. I tried to following some forum suggestions but I couldn't finish the update

Please post the FPA report, as that will tell us if you have missed any issues concerning the server configuration. The above errors indicate a permissions (or possible (file) ownership problem).

Refer red box top of screen, under "Forum Rules". Go to https://forumpostassistant.github.io/docs/ to download the FPA script and follow the instruction to run it and copy the report to this thread.

Your php version is higher version than your old Joomla can work.

You need to start with PHP 5.6 and update to Joomla 3.5.1 then you can update PHP to 7.x (even then, possibly only the earlier versions e.g. PHP 7.1/7.2) and update Joomla through to 3.10 and then update to PHP 7.4 or 8.x

As @webdongle mentioned, FPA is saying PHP 7.4 is not supported by Joomla 3.9.6. The earliest version of Joomla 3.x to support PHP 7 is 3.5.1

Suggest trying this ono a localhost system (WAMPServer) so that you can obtain the relevant PHP version - as most web hosts would have dropped that, due to its EOL some years ago.

...if I Understood I have to go back to php 5.6 in my server then

(but I have a 3.9.6 version. it is possible to apply a previous version of Joomla without problems?, using an upgrade package?..in any case obvious that I have a recent backup)?

Sorry - I misread the version number (@webdongle's comment was 'Your php version is higher version than your old Joomla can work.' so you need to use an earlier version - possibly an early PHP 7 or even 5.6.

As most web hosts won't offer PHP that old (5.6, 7.0, 7.1) I recommend you set up a local server with WAMPServer. Refer to https://wampserver.aviatechno.net/ and https://www.wampserver.com/en/ for more.

To transfer your site between live hosting and local PC
https://docs.joomla.org/Copying_a_Joomla_website.

Recommend Akeeba Backup and Kickstart but there are manual methods as documented above that will also work.

I already tried to change php version (5.6, 7.0 ecc)in my host but if I start the site has problems..
with version 5.6 don't start nothing, with version 7.* start the site but not upgrade.

now, following your advice, I downloaded the site in local(using xampp) than I will download the 5.6 php version
(my apache version in xampp is Apache/2.4.43 ..do you think there are problem with 5.6 php?)

The problem is you didn't follow the advice. You download xampp now Wamp. With Wamp you can change the php on the fly.
