Joomla 3.10 not updating Topic is solved

Hi
I have a simple site at OneCom in Denmark. It is constructed with Xampp and transferred with ftp a few years ago and I have never been able to update it in spite of many amateurish attempts In november is it 'end of life' for php 7.4 which is 'end of' my site
From support OneCom I get this answer:

We do not offer much support with Joomla due to the update issues they often have.

The error seems to indicate that a zip file is missing which is needed for the update. I checked the files and it is indeed not there. So it may be a simple fix and they only have to place the zip file in the correct location.

They should probably contact Joomla support who can help them with updating.

Can anyone give me a hint here?

I think the error originates in that the log_path and tmp_path is incorrect in Global Configuration (configuration.php) It must match the physical folder path on the server.

Do you see the update in Components->Joomla Update?

The website still works because 'Error Reporting' in Global Configuration is 'None'.

Just tested a similar scenario. Fine-tuned first the php.ini file for PHP 7.4.26 in Wampserver, then installed Joomla 3.9.8 and updated the test site into 3.10.11 without any issues.

Those paths does not look correct to me. Use a File Manager and check what actually exist on the server.

A often used path is /home/<your account name or domain>/public_html/tmp

I must admit that your question reveals my lack of knowledge! I am really an amateur!
But it is a xampp installationon created on my computer and transferred with ftp to my webhotell (one com) and put directly into the root – no public_html. And no other installation so then we talk about vps, right?

/logs is empty
/tmp contains index.html and php.ini....strange, I think both folders were empty before? Php.ini also resides i folder etc and this is the correct place, I think.

Thank you for your involvement, but I think it’s very demanding to make my site updated in a way so it will work with php 8. I though will try out /home/moellebakken.com/tmp.

When you transferred your site you used the .jpa file that was created when you used Akeeba to make the backup?

I am pretty sure I did not - I think there were som problems!

If you can't use the .jpa file to install Joomla on a live site then you don't have much chance of transfering it manually. If the installer in the .jpa file shows problems then you need to sort the problems out and keep trying untill the .jpa file fails.

Suggest you wipe the site, drop the database tables and run kickstart on you .jpa. Perhaps even install wamp on your PC and install the backup to that before transferring to your remote server.

I am sure your advices are wisely, but not applicable because:

1. Xammp installation on my PC are gone due to pc crash in 2020 – no backup!
2. No akeba in my website on net.

So if I go further with joomla it must be a new installation, I think - but that’s out of question! With my level of knowledge it will take too much time – if at all possible for me!

In my view it is a miracle that my website has worked all this years from 2017-18....

Anyway, I am very grateful for all the involvement from you folks in this forum – thank you!

You are absolute right, those paths should be like this:

I got this info from support onecom today, and after correcting the paths in configuration.php my site now updated to 3.10.11 and I was finally able to backup with akeeba!

Why didn't I do this years ago?

Is it wise to download the website to my pc and try out updating to 4x with xampp?

No, I didn't have neither akeeba or backup files.
However, after changing my configuration.php on my webserver I have akeeba og backupfiles, compare my answer to Per Yngve Berg above.
